I do have an old Computer running on the projekt. Now I got a new one and I want to move all the data for this project to the new computer (and delete it on the old one). What is a good way to do so, which files have to be transfered?? |

Transfer the whole BOINC folder, excluding any folders in the CPDN project folder relating to completed or aborted runs (completed runs can be kept on CD/DVD in case needed later). When you have copied the folder onto your new PC, install BOINC into that same folder. You can select the version of BOINC you want from the Berkeley BOINC site. But see below. The only problem is likely to be that if you use a CD/DVD to transfer the data, you will need to change the flags back from read only. EDIT I have just remembered something. Moving to ver 4.2x or above of BOINC from lower versions requires the uninstallation of the original version, which deletes BOINC components but leaves project and account files behind so that you can carry on where you left off. I assume that it is possible to use this same process to move between machines (eg uninstall, move BOINC folder, install new version) but are there any snags in practice? Anybody tried it? I'd advise making a backup of the entire BOINC folder on the old machine first before any experimentation. If using the method of transferring the entire BOINC folder containing BOINC 4.19 or below, I'd advise installing as 4.19, then an uninstall, then installing 4.2+. Otherwise you would end up with a very messy installation. |
