The newest version of Boinc is fixed. This page: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?platform=win&i=0 says something about each project needing their applications to be rebuilt for them to work correctly. When will the ClimpatePrediction application for Boinc be updated to fix the problems with the Radeo cards? |

Yes, i also believe that BOINC apps needs to be recompiled in order to fix ATI Radeon issue. Einstein did so lately and testing the new compilation... _________________________ <i>Everyday i wished classic phpBB forum being back and after 60 prayers, all are </i><a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board">invited</a> |

What? If you read my message and go to that URL in my message, you would see that BOINC already has been updated to fix the ATI graphics issue. The CP application needs to be updated now. SETI has fixed their application's ATI graphics issue and Einstein@home has a beta that works pretty well (no more ATI graphics issue). Now CP needs to update their application with the fix as well. > Yes, i also believe that BOINC apps needs to be recompiled in order to fix ATI > Radeon issue. > Einstein did so lately and testing the new compilation... > _________________________ > <i>Everyday i wished classic phpBB forum being back and after 60 prayers, all > are </i><a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board">invited</a> > |

Honza said "BOINC apps". In other words, hadsm. The programers know about it, and so do the users who frequent these boards. The ATI problem doesn't affect everyone, and the programmer has had his hands full over the last few months. A second programmer started work here a couple of weeks ago, and the orignal one then took a well deserved break. They are all on hand now, so be patient. |

Ah. Sorry misread his post. I didn't mean to offend anyone. |

What complainers have to remember is that the fix to BOINC is a recent one, and CPDN graphics are much more sophisticated than other apps such as SETI. It does not follow that the same changes will work for all apps, and the amount of work involved could be considerable. As people point out, there are an awful lot of things that the CPDN team need to fix at the moment and time spent on one means delaying something else. |

Just asking when and if they are going to release an updated application. |

> when and if they are going to release an updated application. The CPDN team have always seen the graphics as a great selling point of the project, and so I think we can assume that they will wish to sort it out. But we may have to be very patient. |

I do not understand why graphics worked before but not now. I had some problems with pre-boinc CPN and signed off and am giving BOINC CPN another chance. I did finally get trickles, but no indication yet of work in my signature or BOINC. I will give it at least a two week trial. My concern is this is a lot of computer time to be losing if things don't work right. <img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-744.jpg"> |

Why not try one of the other visualisation packages which do more anyway? There is CPView and the IDL Advanced visualisation: http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=What%27s_different_about_Climateprediction_compared_to_other_projects#Seeing_what_you_produce |

It is better, but I want something simple to install. It may be simple for you, it is not for me. A computer is a tool for me rather than a game. So far I am not impressed with CPDN, but I will give it a full two weeks before quitting. <img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-744.jpg"> |

The problems with the graphics came about because of changes to BOINC (not CPDN) which were intended to make it more user friendly in other ways, and the graphics have proved difficult to sort out in consequence. But they are just an added feature, and with some projects there is nothing really very informative to show you anyway. As Crandles points out, if you do want to see what is happening with your model you can (CPView is perhaps the easiest to start with); if not it really does not matter. If there is something about the instructions on installing CPView you do not understand then just ask. |

I don't mind being patient. I know this is science, but you missed the point. If I have to figure out which programs to just open the download and which of three downloaded files to use in which order, let alone installing and using it, it is not worth my time. Showing the status of your computations is a natural thing that people who are donating their computers want. I am disturbed by posts suggesting that the upload may not work automatically and you may have to search through your harddrive to find the missing files. This is absolutely unique to CPDN of all the main BOINC projects. It is especially worrying since I will be risking such a large amount of computing time. Three hours is nothing, 10 hours is significant, but three months of distributed computing is a huge investment. As I said I will give BOINC CPDN at least a full two weeks and keep an open mind during that time. <img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-744.jpg"> |

> This is absolutely unique to CPDN of all the main BOINC projects. Well, the problem of graphics not showing on some machines has not been unique to CPDN. It matters more to people in CPDN because the graphics are more interesting than in other projects; if you just want to see how far your WU has progressed you can see that in the work tab. As for the problems you might have installing these add-in programs, you must remember that they are just that, and of course they are unique to CPDN because other projects do not have large amounts of result data for you to look at if you want to. Installation needs vary because many of us have different locations for our BOINC folder, for example, but for those with a real interest in climate and in the progress of their models it is worth the effort. |

The graphics problem is apparently fixed now, at least on my computer. I use windows XP in a 1.8 GHz celeron computer with 496 MB RAM. <img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-744.jpg"> |

Glad to hear that it is working for you now. The strange thing is that some people have found that it comes and goes, and others with identical hardware have not experienced the same problems as others. |

Now the graphics are down again. The main thing I am worried about, though, is loss of credits after so much computing. <img src="http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-744.jpg"> |

Ed & Harriet Griffith, This was an issue in the pre-BOINC version. To my knowledge it hasn't happned to anyone with BOINC. However, some people still use the pre-BOINC version, because of BOINC's other anoyances. |

I'm going to get to that very soon -- since I got back to the UK I have been concentrating on getting the servers running & optimized. |
