As far as I can tell, noone has left my team, resulting in natural decrease (due to the way cpdn works atm). Still, a big chunk of credits was cut from my team. So far all credit gained by an individual has been added to any team they join. So if I add up all credit from all members, it should be the credit the team has - which right now would be more than double of what the team has today (yesterday it would have been just a little less, when using todays numbers of the members ;)) Well, anyway, has anyone else experinced a strange decrease in team credits? Yes I think most of the top teams had many more credits. For example: Alliance Francophone down to 15M from 20M, Boinc Synergy down to 4M from 8M. |

Hi Guys, The UK BOINC Team has also lost credits - around 410,000 in the last days, down from 986,000+ to 575,000+. And that was after a long period where no credits were issued. Personally, I'm experienced enough not to worry oo much about this. But for some crunchers, they might get a bit worried seeing the stats go down and without any comment from the CPDN dev's - not even an announcement on the main page. Hopefully it will resolve itself, but I for one has stopped CPDN and am concentrating on other projects until I can see CPDN getting a bit more stability on their project - hell, if they cannot support it properly (instead of trying to run it on a shoestring), then they shouldn't be doing it. I agree with the 'Hopefully it will resolve itself'. >hell, if they cannot support it properly (instead of trying to run it on a >shoestring), then they shouldn't be doing it. I disagree here. The thing about CPDN is that there is so much development going on. See May 05 Update. Supporting the existing work is important, but so is being able to move on to other important and exciting new experiments. There is so much that is important that it sometime seems that maintenance has to reach critical levels of importance to get attention. Are they drowning under the workload? I don't think so - they have made progress with the trickles - now using the version 5 code for trickles and also the sulphur cycle has moved into beta testing. |

I had thought that rerunning the credit totals for all users/hosts/teams would have fixed everything, but it looks like when the database was messed up the results credits (which "drive" the users/hosts/teams credits) are out of sync with trickle #'s. So I am going to recalc the results, and then the users/hosts/teams, which will probably take a day or two as it has to go through a million records (and that will be a lot of pencils for me ;-) |

Thank you Carl... Being SysAdmin is a thankless job ... almost as bad as being a tech writer ...
BOINC Documentation BOINC-Wiki |

Wonder if this is related? I just noticed that the expavg_time field (time stamp of the last time expavg_credit was recalculated) hasn't been touched for any users for over 2 weeks. My website looks for this field and if it is over 2 weeks ago, it calls the user "inactive". CPDN currently has 0 "active" users. On a seperate issue, I noticed that cpdn evidently lost over 400 teams sometime in the last couple of days... This seems a bit unusual to me. Did you all clear out inactive teams or something? There used to be 2,108 - now there are 1669. Big losses in team/user numbers causes my stats site to mark the update as invalid and not use it. I will fix this but losing that many teams at once seemed suspicious to me... |

The Total Number of Hosts was report a few weeks back as having dropped to half. But it's back up again, so it was just a stats hickup. See here. Teams count may be the same. |

I'm currently updating all credits for results, users, hosts, & teams; both for total credit and recent averaged credit, so bear with me! :-) |

I know these projects can be a pain, and the volunteers more of a pain, but we really do appriciate all your hard work. Glad to see things are starting to get a little closer to normal (at least on our side). |

OK, I just ran the recalculated stats (total & avg credit), it's quite a bunch of calcs, but I'm going to have them run twice a day, because, like a broken watch, CPDN stats can be correct at least twice a day! ;-) |

Thanks, Carl. My stats were updated when I got up this morning, and they were updated again when I just looked (it's afternoon now). I've gotten about 5,000 credits in the last couple days thanks to the wait. Woohoo! Up to 5,000th or so in the rankings. :-) |

This is a modern disease - in the long run maintenance is always cheaper than repair, but people never think in the long term, which is why global warming is happening in the first place! |

What's wrong with this picture? Team MadPenguin.org All cobblestones collected by /me should also have been collected by Team MadPenguin.
|

It still looks like the Team Stats are all messed up, at least my Teams Total Stats are all out of whack anyway. Team Alienware |

Anyone else notice that Team Credits (at least for MadPenguin.org) haven't moved since the 6th when we got back some of what went away on the 3rd?
|

My team's stats dropped to 0 and according to Mundayweb I'm not even a part of any team, so, something's seriously screwed up still. However, here's hoping it's all temporary. I'm sure the guys at CPDN have their hands full as it is.
|

I think the problem now is that BOINC doesn't just sum up the user credits to get the total team credits. The team credits are increased while the user gets credits granted. When a user leaves a team, his "old" credits stay on the "old" team and only fresh credits go to the new team. The recalculation run might have fixed the user credits but it didn't add the same amount to their teams. The chance that this can be fixed for past credits isn't too high (close to void) and fixing it for future recalculations might still require some work - except Carl would decide to handle the team credits as a sum of the user credits. This would not be BOINCish but maybe an acceptable compromise and quite easy to implement. Something like this (or similar, I'm not so familiar with MySQL) : update team set team.total_credit=(select sum(user.total_credit) from user where user.teamid=team.teamid), team.expavg_credit=(select sum(user.expavg_credit) from user where user.teamid=team.teamid); Might be faster to select the sums into a temp table, group by teamid, create an index on the temp.teamid and then update team from temp. For me it would be OK (I never changed the team). |
