Hi, everybody. I've been cruching for a long time and have never had any problems. When I finished my last work unit, that made five perfectly completed runs out of six--one crashed halfway through when I was running an extremely intensive other program at the same time. All those had used hadsm4.12 and earlier. When I went to get a new work unit today, it downloaded it and started work with hadsm4.13--and *immediately* crashed. One minute later, it automatically downloaded another work unit and immediately crashed again. When I look at the work unit, it says this: 4.45 - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) What's the deal? I can't get another work unit because it says I've exceeded my 2/day limit (I never imagined I'd ask for 2 in a day, let alone 3!). Now, I'm afraid it'll happen again tomorrow. Is this a 4.13 issue or something else? What should I do? Thanks in advance. Michael |

Beezlebub may have solved a similar problem by upgrading BOINC to 4.72 which is a development version (so use at your own risk) http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=28982 _______________________________ Visit BOINC WIKI for help And join BOINC Synergy for all the news in one place. |

You may also want to do a project reset. If there was any problem with the download of 4.13, or some corruption of files in the changeover, a reset may fix it. |

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I did a project reset. It just downloaded a new work unit a little bit ago (after midnight GMT?) and crashed. So, I guess tomorrow morning I'll install version 4.72 and see if that works. Wish me luck. :-( Michael |

It still crashes every time. Now I can't run CPDN at all, I guess. :-( I guess I'll concentrate on SETI and the others until they come out with a newer version of BOINC. Michael |

Well, after days of that crashing every time, I tried something new. I deleted BOINC (4.72) completely. I then installed BOINC 4.19. It downloaded a CPDN work unit, started up using hadsm4.13, and has been zooming happily along ever since. Explain *that*. The 4.4n versions and above seem to be rather finicky. I'm using 4.25, and was apprehensive about changing hadsm from 4.12 to 4.13 because of all the tales of woe. I made several backups, but in the end there was no drama, just 'another day at the office'. I think that the moral is: if you don't need the latest version of BOINC for other projects, don't use them here. |

I don't have any problems with 4.45 with Windows. But, I cannot run CPDN on OS-X with 4.43 ... I don't know where the problem lies for sure. Just a side note, not a complaint.
BOINC-Wiki |

I've had a lot of 4.13 WUs crashing one after the other at less than 1% crunched. Using BOINC 4.45. So I suspended the project for about 3 weeks. I re-activated it today and got 8/28/2005 3:31:19 PM|climateprediction.net|Finished download of sulphur_se_4.19_windows_intelx86.zip I hope this won't have as many problems as 4.13! :)
***********************************
Win2KPro, P4 1.8GHz, 512Mb RAM. I have been running BOINC 4.43 for quite a while, no problems with any program that I have tried. From what I can see it takes about 2x the disk space and runs even longer! I hope to download my first Linux/sulphur in the next day or so (only a few trickles left on the current one), but won't be asking for a win2k version for another 1-2 weeks (still in phase 2). If you still have problems, something you may want to check is is your available diskspace, as well as your available "virtual" memory. It could be your VM is getting tight with 7 projects, especialy if you have "keep app in memory" selected for Boinc. If you do get errors, please post them here. It might not be that other crunchers will tell you what's wrong, but if we see the same errors, we can send a "me too" to the project folks, and that might help to narrow it down. |
