I have a GNU/Linux computer with CPDN and Seti (BOINC) on it and just got a Windows machine on which I have CPDN, Seti and LHC. When I try to do my uploads and dwnloads I get different msg. from both computers.
On the windows it will do an update yet on the Linux I get \"Master File Fetch Failed\"
Is this just related to the problems of the last week with both Seti and CPDN, or my other question is, can I have the same program running on multiple machines, without any problems.? I have done several reboots, no change.

I think that generally means the machine can't contact the server; either the server is down or there's a glitch in the participant's setup. Has the Linux machine been running CPDN okay before this problem?

If this is its first attempt, do you have a firewall? If so, is CPDN & boinc listed as "good guys"? There must be access to Port 80. If not the first attempt, was something in the Linux box changed when you activated the Win machine? (I don't use a proxy, so if it's a proxy issue, I can't help.)

There is no problem running as many machines as you want from the same account. (I run five, with four [usually] in Linux and one [usually] in WinXP. Others run dozens of machines.)

OK how do I check if they are listed as "good guys"? I have a common Monitor, but both machines are otherwise independant, as I have dial-up only.

Firewalls have vendor-specific ways to do things but there should be an option to control settings for inclusion and exclusion.

General info: <a href="http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Master_file_fetch_failed"> here</a> and <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/quick_faq.php#firewall">here.</a>

[Edit] Please post your firewall brand so that someone who also uses it can give specific directions.

Were you connected to the internet when you got the fetch file error? As asked has you boinc installation downloaded a work unit already? If it's being connected that is the issue, once you have a work unit disable boinc network access from the boincmgr and only enable it when connected

What flavour of Linux are you using and are you using SELinux? If using the latter check /var/log/audit/audit.log (I think that is the proper one, not on my SE machine right now). Also check your /var/log/messages to see if there is anything. Here you should find it there is something in you linux install that is blocking the access.

Without more details this is all that I can think of.
