BOINC v5.2.6

I have no CP units running & no CP units waiting to upload, but my BOINC disk status reports that CP is using 2.13gb of disk space. I am therefore getting a message that work is available but units cannot download due to low disk space (see below). How can I fix this?

Hi,
1.Go in Your account (in the menu on the left of this page) then in your general preferences and set the disk space as you want.
Then update the CPDN projet in BOINC.

2.Check in your BOINC/project/Climateprediction folder that you don\'t have old Wus that are occupying too much disk space. Each old Wus is taking 300MB.
You can save them on DVD/CDs or move them in another folder if your HDD is huge.

My issue is that there should be no CP units on my computer, but that CP is using over 2gb of disk space. Once units are uploaded, should BOINC remove the old completed units or are the old units simply left on the computer? In addition, there also appear to be old exe & zip files in the CP directory.

Why would I need to copy CP files to a CD? Is there a purpose in keeping old CP files?

Thank you for your post. From the Wiki info, I was able to delete the directories & am now crunching again.

I\'m concerned why CP stores used data on my pc, when my wife\'s pc which is configured in the same way does not store this old data.

In addition, I\'m very concerned that if I had a farm of computers running CP, I would have a regular job to manually remove the finished directories on each computer to ensure that disk space usage is acceptable.

The problem with doing things automatically is that many people <i>want</i> to keep the data and would be cross if it were deleted. Once you know about it, managing the folders isn\'t a lot of work. The important thing is to recognise which is the current folder, and know whether you want to keep the others.

Having said that, BOINC was designed to allow for automatic deletion to free up space, and an example is discussed in this BOINC-Wiki article. But other projects are different, in that the data on your machine is of no interest once the results have beren uploaded. As for why your wife\'s machine appears to be behaving differently from yours, I don\'t know.

I\'m hoping that CP.net can maybe consider adding an option where users can choose to auto-delete old work units. or at the very least, warn people who sign up. The take over of hard drive space by CP is certainly not what I expected & I don\'t expect to have to manage CP to recover my disk space, when BOINC manager is expected to do just that.

Just to add a little ...

For most projects, the result data files do not have any \"post-processing\" tools available. For CPDN, we do have these tools {though I have yet to find time to play with mine ... :(} so these files CAN be useful ...

As the models are \"slow\" they do not accumulate that fast ... and ... you can delete them as you have learned.

In a way, I wish there were more tools that would allow us to do some additional \"playing\" with the results when the work is done. My biggest regret is that when I can work I tend to spend all my time doing Wiki and not much else ... but ... the pull of science ... :)
