It seems that the workunit I have keeps being restarted from time to time (several times a day) - meaning the progress is resetted to zero!!! That way it\'s never going to be completed, of course. Does anyone know that problem - and a solution to it? I use BOINC 5.2.7 and hadsm3 4.13 (I\'ve started BOINC just yesterday because SETI asked me to do). If I don\'t find a solution I will have to stop that project to give it\'s processing time to other projects (because of course there\'s no sense in processing units which will never be finished). But that would be a pity, because I am really interested in that project. |

Under your general preferences, I would have the following set to yes. Do work while computer is in use? yes Leave applications in memory while preempted? yes This should solve your problem. |

Does that mean, when I will need to have it stop being processed it\'s going to restart again? Because I just can\'t have it being processed all the time. When I use applications that need much cpu-capacity as well as ram (like graphic programs (I paint on pc) or video encoders) I don\'t think I can have these preferences set. And by the way, at the moment (and thus during the time these restarts happened) I have my preferences set to \"work while computer is in use\" - although not to keep the application in memory. But I\'ll try the recommended seetings for now, though I don\'t know yet if I can keep them like that. And did I understand correct that \"keeping the application in memory\" uses only virtual memory (meaning space on the harddrive instead of RAM)? I guess I could do this, but I am not sure if I can always keep the setting \"to work while pc is in use\" on. I\'ll have to see what\'s going to happen when I use cpu and ram-consuming programs next time. And what happens when I shut down BOINC? Will the workunit restart again then? |

It uses real memory until and unless you have another program which requires the space. At which point, CPDN/boinc will be swapped-out with no loss of processed data. If you don\'t select \"Leave in memory\", it will always revert to the last Checkpoint, necessitating re-processing as many as 143 Time Steps. If there are frequent interruptions, the Model may forever spin its wheels, making no progress. Boinc/CPDN uses only those cycles your other programs don\'t use. It runs at low priority and gets out of the way of your other work. You can feel confident of its not interfering with your higher-priority processes.
