I\'m getting a repetitive error message: \"Resuming computation for result sulphur_475u000296178_1 using sulphur_cycle version 4.19 Resuming computation for result 183l_300077746_0 using hadsm3 version 4.13 Can\'t resolve hostname climateprediction.net (valid name, no data record of requested type) Couldn\'t read master page for climateprediction.net: error -113 Master file fetch failed Deferring communication with project for 1 weeks, 3 days, 8 hours, 57 minutes, and 22 seconds\" I also seem to have an out of date version (4.19) which may be related to the problem (doesn\'t it automatically update, or at least notify you when an update is available?). Can someone please advise? |

The science applications update automatically but the BOINC client does not. The current recomended version is 5.2.13. It has some improvements in the communications sections, however I doubt any of them will affect your problem. It sounds more like you have a bad setting in a proxy or firewall rather than a problem with BOINC directly. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

I resolve this problem changing my firewall settings. I\'m using windows XP SP2 firewall and simply adding port TCP 80, the problem disappear You might want to change that to specifically allow the program boinc.exe instead of opening up port 80 for everything. I resolve this problem changing my firewall settings. I\'m using windows XP SP2 firewall and simply adding port TCP 80, the problem disappear I had wondered if it was a firewall problem and would\'ve followed your advice except that whilst waiting for these replies I updated the BOINC software and, surprisingly, the problem was resolved. This reinforces my suggestion that the software updates automatically or at least notifies of an update available, a la Microsoft. |

This reinforces my suggestion that the software updates automatically or at least notifies of an update available, a la Microsoft. This is a difficult one, because situations can arise in which a version of BOINC may be suitable for one project, but not for another. For example, 4.45 is not suitable for climateprediction in unpatched form even though it was offered for a long time as the recommended version for all projects. That was a reason why many climateprediction users stuck with 4.19. The question of how best to notify users of changes is an interesting one, but there is now a mailing list option on the BOINC site. You could also kick it around the boards there if you can think of a good alternative. |
