Since sulphur 4.23 isn\'t working right, how can I participate into the coupled beta?

It\'s not for me to say, but if you\'re not already participating, it is probably too late.
Carl started a recuiting thread on a php board last September, asking for expressions of interest from people with at least a P4 3.2G computer or equivalent, who could run 24/7 for four months. The computer needed to be able to get 2.0 s/TS or better to run a 200 year, single phase model.
This beta project has nearly finished, and starting now would not create sufficient data to be worthwhile.

The BBC beta isn\'t much better; just testing the various options with a known stable computer as used in spinup, and getting some runs to use to start the BBC project.
And it\'s VERY unlikely that there will be any credits for this. It\'s just for the science. And also of short duration.

edit
One 200 year run has just finished, and two more have about 20 years to go.

As you have at least one very fast machine, you can try to contact Carl by email or PM (on the PhpBB forum) and propose him to participate in the spinup (although a lot of models have passed the 100 years threshold now), one never knows....
But don\'t expect to be credited (the script to export credits to the main site is not working properly)

So, sometime in February, the coupled ocean part of the project is expected to start. But I think that sulphur will continue for some time, to build up a large database of results.

And, just to depress people even more, the coupling between the ocean and atmosphere parts has proven very tricky to get stable, so if your computer isn\'t stable enough to run sulphur, you stand little chance of getting coupled to run.

So now is a good time to get computers fine tuned, and problems sorted out.

I have one very stable system but not as fast as what you said were running the spinup. It is a 2.93 Gig with 1 gig of memory. This will be finaihing up a model in just a few days. This computer had some wireless network problems when I first got it, but they are all worked out now, that has been the only problem. I did not have this system when they were looking for people to run the Spinup, and a bit slow for that, but should do good on the Coupled units.

How long should I wait for a new WU after that finishes if I want to get a Coupled model?

I have two other projects runing with it now, which I am prepaired to stop if needed.

Cheers

Sorry, no firm date yet.
I think everyone is tied up with the flood of BBC problems. It takes me several hours in the morning just to get through the overnight list of posts without answering anything.
But Real Soon Now.

You could always set CPDN to get no new work and then connect to http://bbc.cpdn.org when the sulphur model finishes if the coupled models aren\'t available here yet.
