I just had a look on the world map in the graphic modus in Boinc. I think, the world map in there ist a little bit old. The map have to be more than 14 years old. There are still two Germanies on the map. I wondered a little bit, because the complete projects are newer than 14 years. And there are other Countries on it, that still does not exist any more in the shown borders.

I thought we had fixed that but unfortunately not. It's our coastline data which is basically a huge array, so it's hard to just open it up in a text editor and take out which points are the national boundaries! We will obviously have to find an update for this.

As you know Carl this "problem" is also existing in the CPDN client :-).
But that can wait!

Does it really matter? I mean, the simulations run in the 19th century, when borders were considerably different. I think that as long as the coastlines of continents are correct the world map will give useful information.

This being Oxford, perhaps we should have the boundaries from 1910, or thereabouts.

I'm pretty sure Tolu fixed this long ago, I remember him hand-editing the East/West Germany borders in the coastline data (too bad political boundary disputes aren't as painless to resolve!)

Not that is matters too much but Czechoslovakia ('till 1993) just east of Germany is still present on a map...even in a brand new alpha-test...
Is it so hard to find an up-to-date map so Tolu doesn't need to hand-edit whenever change occurs?

In addition to the map, I thought the offscale (white-hotspots) issue had been resolved in the screen saver. However, this buglet still exists in the software. Maybe Tolu's patches somehow were forgotten?...
