They can do as they wish with their product. We are just users of their product and we follow their rules or leave. Making a 64 bit app has been tried on different projects. It give very little speed increase. Processing is done in the FPU, and since the FPU has not changed significantly from 32 bit processors to 64 bit processors, you just gain the speed of better memory managment, bus speed, etc. The physical FPU time is going to be nearly the same. Thx At SETI and SIMAP are applications for IA64 on HP-UX and Linux available. The BOINC client is avaialable for Linux IA64 and HP-UX on IA64 at the boinc third party site (boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php). ID: 24902 · Reply Quote
