Message 22619 - Posted: 4 May 2006, 16:46:04 UTC - in response to Message 22614.

I think the problems here are more than the 5.4.x beta, there was a problem which took the Climate server offline 10 days ago -- and the folks minding the store were at a conference so that some \'quick fix\' action was taken a day or two later and that seemed to uncover some other issues while also building up a backlog so that trickles are not getting processed as quickly as they had been up to two weeks ago. That much is pretty clear - but only by watching one\'s own account status and tracking the message traffic.

What I am missing is the sort of status report message I\'ve seen over in SETI -- though of course part of that is response to a much more \'nervous\' user community.

For me, it has been no big deal, I\'ve reduced the Climate resource share in my farm, in some cases I simply detatched to clear up munged project folders (as large as 3+G) and rejoined, in other cases, I\'ve detatched and shifted over to World Grid, and overall, I\'ve dropped back Climate\'s resource share.

Once I get the sense (or ideally see something of a comprehensive status update) that Climate is back to full normal, I\'ll probably bump up the resource share and may reattach some of the systems I\'ve reallocated.

the patches are in references to an error message running the 5.4.X \"beta\" versions of BOINC

in no way does it affect performance, its just annoying

yes the trickle server will catch up, CPDN has never been in the habit of shorting people on creits

I know nothing so this is yet more speculation, but I agree with this post, pointing out that the backlog seems to be growing. I\'m not worried about credits eventually appearing, I\'m just thinking something is actually worsening, not getting fixed. The stats imply (to me anyway) that the trickle processing is not catching up. This is starting to remind me of what SETI went through last year [long depressing story deleted]

Can anyone in the know reassure us that there is actual evidence (as oppsed to logical assumptions) that processing is catching up?

Can the catchup rate be measured such that a \"caught-up\" time frame could be roughly predicted?

Hm, a new design at the account page. Nice. (Especially the direct links to statistic pages!)

Unfortunately I still cannot see the graphs of my finished sulphur model here --> would be interesting to see, because it showed some strange behaveour at some phases...

And still the trickles are lagging behind...

But I want to stop complaining around, the models are working very fine on my machines, and weekend is coming.

;-)

it looks like it was a software feature in my trickle program to limit the # of trickles to 1000 per minute (which should be plenty). But had things falling behind as there\'s a hacker sending like a million trickles a day. So with this guy clogging up the database, things were falling behind. I hope to have it sorted out shortly.

Thank you very much for the update, Carl.

ok, things should be up now, and the trickles should be caught up (credits should be updated in a few hours).

As always, great work Carl. Sorry it had to happen while you were away from the area. Hopefully you can whack this hacker, and things will get back to normal (OK what\'s normal around here), well more stable.

I\'m glad things are getting better now.
But I still miss some trickles as you can see by the gaps in my result graph. I hope you didn\'t simply flush all the backlog to catch up, although I received the credits for it.

Trickles only tell the system you are still alive, and gives back a small amount of data. The important stuff is at the end of the WU when it sends back all the data.

I am unsure, but I believe that when the WU finishes, the graphs will all fill back in with the correct data. So if a trickle or two is missing, it gets credited (as you can see), and nothing is really lost.
