Had same problem and it APPEARS to have been the Win XP Pro SP2 Firewall. The other boxes using NIS firewall don't have the problem. Trying to get CPDN W/Us to confirm but SETI and LHC are working fine now.

I continue to have this problem on Win XP Pro SP1 with no firewall AND on Win 2000 SP3. Have the climateprediction guys said anything about this yet? I'm dead in the water. I did have the CHECKSUM error but I did finally get by that only to encounter the FORTRAN RTL error. Awaiting info from someone!

Add me to the list.

I just added a new box with Win XP no SP1 or SP2 updated yet.

Two out of three workunits are just sitting there at 00:00:00

Any answers yet?

Should I reset and D/L again?

I have updated to SP2 since the initial downloads.

im haveing the same problem but what happened is unbleiveable.
1: im starting the project and get all my files loaded.
2: runs for approx. 60hrs.
3: crashes when i turn on the graphics and messes up the files some how so i had to reload all them.
4:i get errs on every file except the WUs so i reset the project.
5:reset another 3 times
6: on 4th reset it gets every thing except the 4.29 meg file whitch got a checksum at 99.97 percent
7: have to settle for running gimps because i cant get work from any of the 5 boinc projects.
take to mind this is all on a dial up modem. but i will perservere and weather out the storm.
and as the sprite doll commerical guy says "show them my motto"
~boinc its not about the credits or the satisfaction, its about the screen savers!!!:)

As it turned out, I downloaded the 4.05 from a mirror on the CP site, the exe file was named mirror.exe.

When I went to P@H and downloaded the 4.05 that is named boinc_4.05_windows_intelx86.exe and installed it over the other client, all my problems went away.

@ roland of gilead

FYI. Your love of screensavers comes at a price. The cpdn .scr uses about 25% of your resources; it's a real hog. That will slow down your Boinc computations considerablely.

Interesting. Exactly what browser did you use and what link?

This may as well have something to do with the fact that you reinitialized the files by reinstalling, not so much that you used a different binary. I guess there will be a better retry function in some future BOINC client as the current one does not _really_ retry on failed downloads.

I used IE 6.0.2900 and downloaded from;
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/download.php.

>
I tried six times to download after installing from the "Mirror.exe" file and every time I would get the Fortran error when crunching began. After installing the 4.05.exe from P@H I reset, downloaded, and everything is going as it should.

I believe that somewhere in the forums I read that the mirror has been taken down. (maybe the BIONC forums??) Therefore I believe that it was a bad code in the first install that I downloaded causing the trouble.

There was no re-try on failed downloads, the work unit would sit there with a status of downloading as nothing happened. Only reseting cleared the Work Tab, however it also left me with six pending units listed in my account that will not be processed.

Could I ask if those who were, or indeed still are, experiencing MD5 checksum errors or garbage URL errors on download were using a third party proxy authenticator (such as Proximotoron). I ask because I had the same problems at LHC but these went away when I used the BOINC proxy.

Thanks

Yes I know. Theres a thread running at the moment. It seems this problem is spreading. CPDN seems to be ground zero followed by LHC yeterday and then Seti today. Having said that Seti has been down for so long that they could have been the first :)

I think there was only two or three of us at LHC that were getting the problems but theres a few more at SETI.

Does anybody know over here if the MD5 checking is a new feature or was it always implemeted.

The MD5 check has always been there, however the failure rate wasn't enough to become a problem until recently. LHC has alot of files that all have to download properly. CPDN has big files to download. So both projects are showing the problem more dramatically. I think the fix is in CCv4.08 whenever it comes out.

John, thanks for that info. The only thing I dont get is that these errors seem to be becoming more frequent or are people just becoming more aware......

Neil, it's possible that the percentage of download problems is fairly static. The number of users is increasing at a phenomenal rate, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a similar climb in the number affected. Not that that's any consolation to those who are ...
