I am considering quiting CPDN because I have been getting client errors on most of my models. I think the science being done here is important, and would like to give a share of my BOINC time to CPDN, but not if the results are not helping. Is there any data from failed runs being used? I have seen a lot of messages about backing up CPDN frequently so that you can resume after a failure. How successful is this? How difficult? Thanks for all the comments I know I will get. |

Making a backup is easy...........I do it once a day if I remember. I just suspended the WU, exit BOINC and then zip up the entire BOINC folder. I\'m only running CPDN so it doesn\'t affect any other projects. |

The degree of difficulty depends on how hard you think the following are: Find the Exit option in the menu and click it; Use Explorer to find and select the BOINC folder; Use the Copy option in Explorer; Find somewhere else on the hard disk to create and name a backup folder; Use explorer to Paste the copied data to this new folder. Some people DO think some of this is a bit too technical, and have requested more detail. :( (I think that I may be doing this in my sleep by now.) :) |

I think you have explained ervrything very well, as far as backing up your data on CPDN, a good step by step guide in fact. Keep up the good work :) |

Hi Gene, Backing up is fairly quick + easy (about 5 minutes, I do it once per week). How often are you getting errors, and do you know what the error codes are? Your PCs are hidden, so we can\'t give any specific advice. The topmost post in the \'Q+A: Windows problems\' forum discusses some of the most frequent errors. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |
