I may be leaving this job pretty soon. I\'ve had climate prediction running in the background all year, and it\'s still only 70% complete. I *HATE* the idea of losing all that effort. Is there a way to carry the partially worked file along to my next position? Or will all that be lost when I leave? |

Well, there\'s good news, and there\'s bad news. The good news is that you just need to Exit the model, and then copy over the ENTIRE BOINC folder to a cd, and transfer it all to a new computer. The bad news is: 1) You only had half the recommended amount of memory, which is at least one of the reasons why it\'s taking so long. 2) The sulphur models were a short term project (3-4 months), to get some starting values for the Coupled Ocean models. These models started on February 14, and so those sulphur models that haven\'t completed by now aren\'t really needed. But the important information was in the upload at the end of phase one. (A few dozen of the new TCMs have now completed, and more are finishing every day.) So the final good news is, you don\'t need to try and \'take it with you\'. |

That\'s very strange. I received a sulphur cycle unit on February 15, which took 12 weeks to complete. So that was completely useless. :( |

Not useless, just something that was no longer URGENTLY needed. The TCMs didn\'t start here at cpdn until a few weeks later, after the dust had settled over at the BBC project, and in the meantime, the sulphur models were the only ones available. It\'s the people still slowly working their way through sulphur models that they downloaded ages ago, and which might not finish until next year, that MAY be \"useless\". But most people don\'t read these boards unless they have a problem, and the project doesn\'t know who may have some that are still being worked on at low priority, along with wus from other projects, so there\'s no way to tell them. |

So is it pointless for me to let this keep running, or should I let it run on the off chance it finishes before I leave? Seems like my work computer may just not be up to snuff for this project, huh? Sigh. |

Well, considering that it gives the computer something to do in it\'s idle moments, and (presumably), you\'re not paying for the electricity, I think that *I* would let it run. At roughly one trickle a day, you have 6 more trickles (and days), to the end of phase 4, and a further 24 after that to finish. However, I\'d suggest that you click on Projects, then the project name, and then click the No new work button. That will prevent BOINC from downloading another data set when you get near the end of the current model. |
