It has been suggested to me that trying to run CPDN at the same time as using Skype causes CPU conflicts, and thus my callers hear screeching noises from time to time. Has anybody else experienced this? |

Hi, You could try right-clicking on the \'B\' (boinc) item in the system tray, and \'suspend\' (or \'snooze\') just before making a Skype call, to see if it makes any difference. I suspect it\'s got more to do with intermittent network delays interrupting the audio signal, but a bit of experimentation should make the cause clearer. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. Whenever I skype the software flames at me that \"my CPU usage is too high\" but that seems to be a default error message since I never had any problems... it\'s kind of a running gag between me and a friend who does BOINC too. ;-) |

Whenever I skype the software flames at me that \"my CPU usage is too high\" but that seems to be a default error message since I never had any problems... it\'s kind of a running gag between me and a friend who does BOINC too. ;-) Interesting post! I have problems with the BT Yahoo Browser (which I think is based loosely on the MSN Browser) and CPDN. After opening my BT Browser it then automatically loads up BT Yahoo Messenger/Communicator (Skype equivalent) and LaunchCast which is a BT Music Player that plays music based on your preferences. After 10 minutes of so BOINC disappears from my taskbar, and then the icon in my System tray disappears 5 seconds later. However, if I do a CTRL>ALT>DEL my processor is still running at 100% and I can see the Boinc.exe process and the SETI or CPDN process running too. What\'s all that about??? Is BOINC still running under these conditions? I go abroad a lot with work and leave my PC on whilst I\'m away running BOINC Projects. I would hate to find that my BOINC Client bombs out occasionally without me knowing!!!! Neil. |

Hi Neil What you\'re losing is the gui (or Manager), which is boincmgr.exe, not boinc.exe (which is the worker daemon), or the 2 climate programs. Yet. |

Hi Neil ....so all OK then. I can go abroad safe in the knowledge that my PC should keep chugging away!!! |

Hi Neil Seems like there\'s a good chance one day you\'ll lose the core client (boinc.exe) or perhaps 1 or both of the climate programs. |

That\'s what backups are there to get around. :) And selecting \"Network activity suspended\" before going away will stop BOINC blabbing to the server if something DOES go wrong. Which isn\'t much help for those people running multiple projects, but for the rest of us, it\'s great. |
