Hi folks,

We recently realized that our team has a bad URL for our team webpage, and the founder of our team doesn\'t know what his login is, nor what email address he used to create our team so he can\'t login and fix it. :) It\'s been awhile since he logged in here I guess.

Can someone help us fix this?

Here\'s the correct link.

Thanks,

-S

As far as I know it\'s only the founder who can do that... :-(

If he got an email when you joined the team, then the \'To\' email address will be the one which he registered with. If he can\'t guess the password, he might be able to log in via an \'account key\' instead (email containing the account key would have been sent when he first joined the project).

I understand that in the future there will be a way to replace the founder if necessary, but that\'s still being written by the Boinc team in Berkeley.

Bumping this, as the founder has been unsuccessful in getting that fixed or logging in. Is there any way someone could change the founder?

Thanks for any help.

Just saw this link on our team page:

\"Request team founder transfer\"

Looks like our founder has initiated that, what is the next step? Thanks!

That\'s appeared because the project code has been updated. You\'ll need to click the link, and it\'ll send an email to the founder. If the founder doesn\'t reply within a certain time (a couple of months??), then the team will transfer over to you.

If the founder receives that mail, he\'ll know which address he used to create the team, and can use the procedure to retrieve the password.

Hmm, so it\'s been a month and nothing has happened. Can someone help us at the project level?

No, he doesn\'t have that email address anymore.

If the team founder does not respond to your email challenge within 2 months time, then the team founder option will be given to the person who sent the email.

Grrrrr....

It\'s not my email challenge. The person who initiated the transfer/challenge (pmondo) *is* the original team founder, but he has long since changed email addresses so he has no way of getting in until his attempt to challenge himself is complete. He is trying to transfer it to his new address.

Why 2 months? That seems a little ridiculous to me. Old owner and new owner are the same person, can\'t someone just go in and click \"approve\" for us?

There is a problem, (posted and discussed, I think, on the php forum), where someone has managed to hack in as a team leader and taken over the team. This person has then kicked out several of the members.
The project people have no way of knowing which of these identically named people is telling the truth, and which is lying, and are thus reluctant to do anything.

So:
If you want someone to just go in and click \"approve\", prove, in a way that will \'stand up in a court of law\', that both the \'old\' and \'new\' person\'s that you mention are, indeed, one and the same.

PS
Why isn\'t the team founder posting here, either instead of, or as well?
This could be considered as suspicious.

I sent pmondo a link to this thread, hopefully he\'ll answer any questions you have to prove he is the founder.

As to why he\'s not the one posting this, I guess I\'m just slightly more proactive and spend more time hanging out on this forum.

Honestly, I could care less about who the founder is. I just would like someone to please fix the URL to our team website (see my original post) -- and this seems to be the only way to get it done. We\'ve been working on this for 7 months now...

Thinking further about this:

1) A team founder has access to the email address of all members.
2) People often change their email address.
3) So the team data should reflect this change. (At least after the next project update. xml update?)
4) This changeability should include the team founder. (I can\'t think of a reason why it shouldn\'t, because if the founder changed his email, and then someone else took over as leader, this new person would need access to this new email.)

5) So, has the founder updated his email address on his Account page? (It\'s an option near the top.)

6) It may be possible to \"issue a challange\" more than once during the 2 week wait period. The best way to find out is for YOU to try it.
If it worked, you could fix the name problem, and then hand the team back to the original founder. Or at least, eventually. :)

Here is what it says when I click the link:

Founder change has already been initiated by pmondo on 20 Apr 2007.

Thanks for your help Les,

5) So, has the founder updated his email address on his Account page? (It\'s an option near the top.)

I think the main problem is that the Team Founder made a new account. So changing his email address to the old address doesn\'t automatically make him TF.

He needs to log in with either the old account, or with the account key of that old account, before he can make any changes. Since he can\'t request the account key to be sent to him as the old email address is defunct, that\'s giving him the problem. Had he not made a new account, but just changed the email address on the old account, there wouldn\'t have been a problem.

So as the 3rd option he just has to wait another 3 weeks until the option to take over the team is given free to him.

Why 2 months? To give team founders time to react. What if someone is on vacation or in the hospital for some time? There\'s also a 3 month wait after which you can try again, if you get waved off by a TF or miss the window at which you can take over as TF.

Nobody in this thread can change the link, but once the team founder gets control back via this process he\'ll be able to change it.
