I have been running CP for 12 hours total now (over the last few weeks) and I still have no credit. Is this normal?

Also, everybody refers to their models being on certain days. How do I tell that on mine?

Hi, Jeff, welcome to the Boards.

If memory serves, the Model must reach 0.625% before anything is uploaded, hence before any credit is awarded. Once per Model year. 160 times in all.

In the Tasks tab, click on the Model and select \"Show Graphics\". Click \"Z\" to get rid of the overlay. You\'ll see some Model information, including Model date and processing rate in seconds per Time Step.

If you click \"8\" you\'ll see a countdown to the next checkpoint. After the number recycles to 432 is the best time to stop the Model for backups or to shut the machine down. (Saves a bit of re-processing.)

Best to set to screensaver to blank (in Win Control Panel) and use Tasks/Show Graphics for the occasional status glimpse. Graphics burn a lot of CPU time that would otherwise go to the Model.


Edit: Just checked your machine. It will require more than 24 hours of CPU time to reach a Trickle point and a good 3,000 hours to finish the Run.

Just a sidenote, my CPU is overclocked more than 50% so it probably won\'t take as long as you mention.

Also, the graphics button on my Boinc is greyed out. I think I did the service install. How can I fix that?

That\'s a heavy overclock! Water-cooled, I presume, and good memory.

Be advised that this Model doesn\'t always \"play nice\" on O/C machines. However, if it\'s okay after hours of Memtest-86 and a day of Prime95, you should be okay. Regular backups are recommended -- just in case... (I did them every three days during Spinup, five to six days now. Essentially, its determined by how much you\'re comfortable with re-running after a crash.)

As to Service and graphics -- I think it\'s possible but there are some hoops to jump through. Have to wait for someone knowledgeable about Service installation to come along; I\'ve never used it. (Meanwhile we can use the search feature on the Boards and hope for the right search terms.)

Edit: In case I misinterpreted your question --> if you don\'t particularly want CPDN installed as a Service, the Model can be stopped and exited, boinc uninstalled (with Windoze Control Panel/Add-Remove) and reinstalled with another option. Your CPDN work will (should) be unaffected. (I also deselect the set screensaver and start boinc on system startup options.)

To set the \"interact with the desktop\" option, you will need to change to the local system account (BOINC defaults to the user account active when installed as a service). Of course, you will also need to stop and restart the service.

contorl panel -> administrative tools -> services , then select properties for the BOINC service. The setting is under the LogOn tab.

This will allow graphics to work when running as a service (including the screensaver if desired).

Actually, my machine is only air-cooled and 100% stable! This is the best overclockable chip I have ever found for the price. Right now, I am running at 3.5Ghz with an 824Mhz front side bus. I am also using Kingston memory, which is a very good brand. My current setup only became unstable when I got it up to 3.7Ghz. I can only imagine how high I could overclock it if I had watercooling or started messing with the core voltage.

I firmly believe in backups, especially since I am a Network Administrator. I will need to do that along with the rest of my system.

Dunno about that, never tested. Personally, I\'m using Infineon as a friend of mine (who is an IT pro) said it would go best with my mainboard. But that certainly is an amazing overclock, Jeff, I can only say gratz and good luck for the future ;-)

I always prefer to buy Kingston because they test each and every single memory stick. They will test each memory stick for a full 24 hours to let it burn in a little. If it does not pass this 24 hour test they will not sell it. I am not aware of any other companies that do that.

Very good. Please don\'t be impatient waiting for it (easier said than done) because credits are updated only once a day. (It used to be more frequent but the server load grew with the Project and economies had to be found...)

As Trickles occur once each Model year, and there are 160 years in the TCM, you have only 159 more opportunities to earn credit with your Model. Good luck with it!

You\'ll have a better chance to finish the Model if you make regular backups. That way the Run can be retried with the most recent backup if a problem is encountered. Les\' How-to is here:
