I am new to BOINC. I have signed up for a couple of other projects, and they seem to distribute a much smaller subset of work? My concern is that either I won\'t finish the job in a timely matter, or worse the job will crash at some point and it will fail to finish. Doesn\'t either work make the computer cycles worthless? I only have 1 computer with 1 3Ghz Pentium, so maybe I should stick to smaller jobs? after a day of running my current job is only 0.26% complete.

Any thoughts?

Running climate models alongside of other projects means that you have to be REALLY patient.
The models here take 3000+ hours, whereas the other projects take a few hours to a day or so.

If you intend sticking with a mixture of projects, then be patient and DON\'T FIDDLE with BOINC settings.
It will sort things out after a month or so.

Just to add a little to Les\'s explanation, the model uploads a summary of it\'s climate every year, and a more detailed summary every model decade. A full restart dump is uploaded at 1960, 2000, and 2040. So it doesn\'t really matter if the model crashes part way through, as long as you\'d made reasonable progress.
I'm a volunteer and my views are my own.
