Hi, I would like to know if I can format my PC (I really need it) and then resume the project from where I am (at 20%). Do I have to copy any files before that? Thanks!

Yes.
You need everything in the BOINC folder, and all folders under it.
Zip before copying to dvd, or make sure that all files/folders are made read/write again after you copy them back.
And BOINC must be Exited before copying.
