Recently the \'View Computers\' segment has picked up a large amount of essentially useless information for the majority of users. I refer to the new details placed between []such as: [fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt lm 3dnowext 3dnow pni lahf_lm cmp_legacy] Unfortunately this adds 11 lines to the normal 4 or 5, and forces me to scroll quite a bit to see all 6 or 7 systems I have up. I don\'t care whether this was an accident or deliberate - it is a real nuisance when I copy daily performance numbers because frequent upgrades have me with two unmergable systems, widely separated.. Two solutions appear easy w/o removing the function for those interested in the details. 1. Add an asterisk at the end of the std four lines, which turns the extra list on or off. 2. Add an entry in Preferences where I can specify the maximum number of lines per computer on the View list. My preference is for #2 as that would allow those with 20 or 30 systems to get a one line, one page overview, or any other level of detail they desire. I\'d suggest a default of 4 lines for this parameter. Finally, I like to ask for a merge capability that depends on name only. I have a number of upgraded systems with the same name that will not show on merge. So I wind up with obsolete systems hanging around for 30 days, and new systems that only show a small part of their total production. It\'s a small detail, but annoying. Any help appreciated. Thanks, BillN |

The new \"long processor name\" is something that happened with the new version of BOINC. If you want action, you\'re better off posting on the BOINC/dev boards. They\'re currently down for reorganising, but the url is: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/. |

At one point or another, it seems this information is to be separated from the processor, but because some of the new processors are doing things differently, it\'s combined. As most testing comes through, hopefully this will get engineered to be separated. The reasons it\'s there is to allow projects to read what processing power it thinks you have, and they can give you more optimized clients based on it. Now, because different OS versions do not look for certain extensions, you do not always see all the extensions possible for your processor. Windows is the biggest problem with this. Example is that W2K does not care about SSE3, so it will not show that extension, etc. I am unsure how far away the update is, but I have read it is coming. |
