I\'ve been crunching for different projects for a number of years. Seti since Aug 1999, Einstein since Oct.2005, and ClimatePrediction off and on (full time just a couple of weeks ago.

I don\'t know who the kind person was that brought up ClimatePrediction here recently, but as a consiquience when seti went down, I turned to CPCN as a backup to seti on one of my computers when their servers went down. After having a few problems getting started I was amazed by the friendliness the folks here and how helpful they were in such a short period of time.It rememinded me of how it used to be back in the easly Seti Classic days and how I have longed for a community where rational discussion and friendly people can be found.

I have therefore dedicated my faster system to CPCN, Midrange (wife\'s to einstein, and the slowest to seti) if seti continues to have the problems they have had and the number of posts asking for donations doesn\'t slow down, I\'ll be converting that system over to a shared workload of climateprediction and einstein.

Thank you good folks for making a new comer here feel welcome and a part of an intelligent extended family.

Just my 2¢ worth
Arion

Thanks for your kind words Arion.

Hi Arion and welcome.

Remember that the cpdn workunits are massively long compared with other projects, so a few extra precautions are required here to avoid disappointment. I\'d recommend a look at the project READMEs linked through my sig. Don\'t try to read the lot! But look at

*the top tips in the README about Running the model

*in the README about avoiding model crashes, item #1 by Les about how to back up the contents of the boinc folder, plus item #5 by Mike.

If you also want to post on that forum, separate registration is required. We suggest keeping the same name so we all recognise each other. It gives access to a \'proper\' private messaging facility.

When I tried to run CPCN back in Oct, it was on my slowest system. (also used for beta testing etc.) That\'s the main reason I aborted the workunit since with beta testing different products I couldn\'t be assured that I\'d ever complete the unit. That and my mistaken idea that you wouldn\'t get any credit until it was completed. I mentioned this a few weeks ago on the einstein boards while they were undergoing the changeover to the new units. I was informed that CPCN does trickle up credits on a regular basis, depending on the speed of the system. During the past few days (after switching one of my cores from einstein to CPCN) I\'ve noticed that I\'m averaging between 500 to 1000 units a day on my main system.
Earlier I had posted when I was having some problems and someone suggested that I read the readme sections as well. I have been reading them quite a lot and especially the parts about upgrading the client and the importance of backups. Changes on my system are very infrequent but I can see the importance associated with those \"helpful hints.\" Now all I have to do is get in the habit on this system of making more frequent backups. <smile>
Thanks so much for the help and kind words.

Even if you do run the model past its deadline, the cpdn server ignores this and lets you continue, no penalties imposed. Which is just as well because I\'m still finishing off a model downloaded in April last year.

The models trickle on 5 Dec of each model year and there\'s a file upload every 10 years. I don\'t think the files get extra credits - just the trickles. But what the researchers really want is the files.
