I\'ve set up the client on one computer, and had no worries. I\'m trying to set it up on a second computer (download, doubleclick, let it install, click on new BOINC Icon) and something flashes across the screen, but I get no GUI. I found this in the stdout.txt file in the BOINC directory : 2004-09-03 12:59:24 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.05 for windows_intelx86 2004-09-03 12:59:24 [http:///] Project prefs: using your defaults 2004-09-03 12:59:24 [http:///] Host ID not assigned yet 2004-09-03 12:59:24 [---] No general preferences found - using BOINC defaults The task manager doesn\'t show anthing BOINC related, and the processor is at 0-5% So far I\'ve tried: 1) Uninstall, reinstall, restart 2) Uninstall, shut down, DL the setup again, reinstall, restart So, it looks like I need to update some preferences, but the GUI flashes by and I can\'t update the darn thing. The computer is an AMD Athlon XP 2100+, 496 megs of ram, and the OS is XP Pro with service pack 2. Suggestions? Dave |

I finally solved this by uninstalling the software, then deleting the entire BOINC directory, there were some files left behind after the uninstall. I reinstalled, and it fired up right away. I'm not certain why the uninstall didn't take out all the old files, but it's working now.... It was disappointing to me that no one had an answer to this issue for me... oh well, alls well that ends well! Dave |

BOINC assumes that most of the time there will be a reinstall following an uninstall. The files left behind allow it to pick up where it left off in most cases when it is reinstalled. <br>John Keck -- BOINCing since 2002/12/08 -- <a href="http://www.boinc.dk/index.php?page=user_statistics&project=cpdn&userid=191"><img border="0" height="80" src="http://191.cpdn.sig.boinc.dk?188"></a> |
