In about a month I should have completed four hadcm3 models. I\'ve been looking at this FAQ entry: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/quick_faq.php#Why_is_there_330MB.2F1GB_of_data_left_on_my_disk.3F So, once finished, the official line is if I don\'t mind archiving the model directories, it\'d be a good idea to do so? I can spare a dvd+r. |

The FAQ is out of date, if all goes well the model should automatically delete itself when it finishes. However, if it crashes, you need to delete the folder yourself. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Yes, the FAQ is talking about the original slab models, which became obsolete in about October 2005. Some data was left on the user\'s computers after completion, both so that the user could study the results for themselves, and also because not all of the data was sent back to the servers. There was a request for this to be kept if possible, in case the reserachers, on looking at the data that WAS received, decided to ask for the rest. However, because of complaints from a lot of people about being used as a storage facility, the models that have been released since then now send their data back in small chuncks all the way through the modelling, instead of all at the end, as was the case with the original slab models. And, as Mike has said, if the model completes successfully, there ISN\'T anything left on the computer. Which means that people can\'t study their results. :( Even the newly revived slab models, for the new, limited study, don\'t keep data after they complete. |

Thanks both of you for the info\'. I did some crunching a while back on a slab model, though I gave up for insufficient memory at the time. I can remember something like that used to be the case, hence my confusion. That\'s that cleared up :) |
