Message 30262 - Posted: 29 Aug 2007, 10:44:45 UTC - in response to Message 30252.

Pmurphy gives a website in his Seti profile so I\'ve sent him an email. What a lot of these people belong to Seti. I may run a single Seti WU to be able to send them private messages there. Unless Milo thinks that enabling messaging on this forum would now be a good idea.

Hi there, thanks for letting me know I had a problem - I was wondering why my boinc was only successfully running two of it\'s projects.

I have updated to the newest boinc manager client and would like to know if I am still causing problems.

I\'ve started this thread for Paul Murphy and am going to copy his post across so he has a thread to himself.........done that. Paul, I think you\'ll get an email telling you I\'ve moved your post.

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.

Yes, it was a good idea to update your version of boinc. Which version have you now got?

By clicking on your name and then on Computers, I see this list of two dual-core AMDs. Are they 2 separate computers or 2 records of the same one?

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/hosts_user.php?userid=37536

The first computer on the list shows two models downloaded today. The first crashed after 5 hours with a 22 error code, and then you got a new model which appears to be processing.

The second computer, the one with a lot of models, seems to be allowing cpdn to run on both cores. It downloaded 2 models almost simultaneously at about 7 AM UTC today even though none of the previous models appear to have crashed.

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=508467

On this second computer, what is listed in the boinc manager Tasks tab?

Hi there - I doubt I\'ll be posting much after I(we?) get this sorted, it\'s only the fact I am off work with a damaged shoulder that your email didn\'t go straight into the spam folder.
I have just the one computer, though just to complicate things it can dual boot from a raid0 drive for more speed for when I play games.
It would be nice if my accounts were merged, but if it involves any significant effort then leave it. I am in this to help out rather than count units.
The new boinc client seems to be working well (though now my seti client doesn\'t seem to be downloading) and I have just the one CP unit downloaded and processing.
Would any of the message information be useful to you?

NB:
Oh yes, my other (newer) email address (with 2 h\'s) is
gamithh <at> gmail.com
and may be a better way to contact me, the other email is for webbots to use.

Hi, Paul,

BOINC balances work among projects according to settings in \'Preferences\' in \'Your Account\'. It has two counters, short term debt and long term debt. SETI probably \"owes\" CPDN a lot of time. Unless you change the \'share\' assigned to each Project, it might be awhile until boinc \"pays back\" CPDN to balance all the time already used by SETI.

Speedy recovery on your shoulder!

Please excuse any typos that creep in - I am typing with my left hand, which is puttng me off a little.

I am now on boinc manager 5.10.13, it was 4.(9 | something)

Ok, I went to this page, selected both identities and merged the computers, now I get lots of entries, which I suspect are all the units that I have downloaded, and must be releasable, since even if I leave this PC on for eternity I doubt it will get through. (there are hundreds of them).

Should I reset the project? or just leave it?

It should run OK now, so as long as you\'re happy to run climate models then let it run :-)

How many models do you get showing in the \'tasks/work\' tab in the Boinc manager? As long as it\'s only the one you\'re fine. If there are hundreds, then click on each in turn and press \'abort\'.

I am seeing hundreds at :
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=508467
all* showing \'in progress\'

Boinc manager is just showing the one cpdn task, so I guess thats working ok.

I hope the damage to your shoulder is the sort of injury that eventually heals, even if it takes time.

Don\'t reset the project as that would crash the model you are running. No point in having to start a new one.

Unfortunately the record of the hundreds of models on your server web page can\'t be eliminated because the server refuses to forget what models it sent to members. Don\'t spend any time trying. But that list of models on your web page does no harm.

What\'s important is, as Mike says, what model/s are listed in your boinc manager Tasks tab. These are the only workunits that can actually run.

In your boinc manager Projects tab, highlight ClimatePrediction and then click the No New Tasks button. This will stop the download of further models you don\'t want. As you are running at least one other project, you probably only want one climate model. The day you do want a new model, you\'ll have to click the button again to \'Allow New Tasks\'.

It is thanks, though the doc says that it will take at least a week, which means that I will have to miss my LAN party the weekend aft next :-(

Ok

I can do that :-)

>then click the No New Tasks button.
Done, hopefully I am sorted out now - thanks for your help.

Thanks for coming onto the forum. If while you\'re off work you do have a bit of spare time, you could go to the link in my signature to the project READMEs. No way do I suggest reading everything! But in the README about Running the Model, the top tips are worth reading.

And in the README about avoiding model crashes, item #5 by Mike who posted above is very useful.

Best of luck with your shoulder.

Hi Paul
The \'night shift\' is \'up and about\'. :)
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Take it easy and give it time.

Glad your problem has been sorted. It was the 4.19 version of BOINC; these latest models need a 5.* version.
