I have duplicate accounts on the CPDN site as you can see below. The problem that I have is that the older account is reflecting credits from Beta as well as the newer account. Right now I have a Beta WU and that is why the Beta site numbers are different. Climateprediction.net Beta member since 29 May 2007 Total credit 8,412.06 Recent average credit 75.43 Account number used in URLs 300 User Name Barbud [USA] climateprediction.net member since 23 May 2007 Total credit 27,913.06 Recent average credit 0.86 HadSM3 Model-Years 181.61 HadSM3 Complete (45-year) Runs 4.10 Beta Testing 8,317.54 Account number used in URLs 453257 User Name Barbud [USA] climateprediction.net member since 19 Sep 2006 Total credit 8,317.54 Recent average credit 0.00 HadSM3 Model-Years 55.01 HadSM3 Complete (45-year) Runs 1.22 Beta Testing 8,317.54 Account number used in URLs 199935 User Name Barbud [USA] Is there some way of correcting this? The stats sites are showing this as a split CPID when really it is a duplicate account that is getting credit when it shouldn\'t. Current CPID ending in aa5848f is correct, for now. Please advise, |

Linking is usually done via the email address. If you compare the email address on beta with the email address of the account you want the credit to go to, they should be identical. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

True, but that is not the case here. 453257 has the same email as the Beta account 199935 has a differant email address and has never had a WU trickle up. All the credit within this account is from the Beta. Compare the two account on BoincStats New account 453257 Old account 199935 They have the same exact credit updates and I am only running one Beta WU. |

Then also change your name on the unwanted account here. That way the program won\'t be able to match your beta account to your unwanted cpdn account. |

At least 24 hours and possibly more (depending on when the import runs). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Did not due a thing except show a change in username on the old account. As was mentioned before the only thing that should be tying the two accounts together would be the email address, which can\'t happen because of account restrictions limiting one email address/account on CPDN. I think I need a project admin to look at the server and see what these accounts are doing and why they are tied to each other. I\'m tired. I think I\'m going to bed now. |

Right now I am only processing one Climate Prediction work unit, â€Â10174†on Climateprediction.net Beta. I am not processing anything else from CPDN, SA or Beta. All the computers that I have and looking within the Boinc Task tab there is nothing except on one box that is proceesing one work unit. My account at Climateprediction.net Beta is sending the credit from the one work unit to two different (so far only 2) accounts, they are listed below. Normally I would not complain about getting two of anything for the price of one. You don\'t need free credits because I see you\'re in the top 1% of boinc users worldwide....... The boincstats pages are usually a full day and often two days behind what\'s currently trickling up from climate models so I suggest we look at your pages again at the weekend. The duplicate credit isn\'t actually doing any harm, is it? It\'s not as if the credit was being accidentally siphoned off a different member\'s account. And a double amount isn\'t going into your new real account. I have duplicate accounts on BBC and cpdn from when I reregistered and didn\'t then realise that using a different email address was what boinc would call an unrecoverable error. But my old accounts never get any new credits even though the account names are all identical. Assuming you must have more than one computer to earn all those credits, would it be useful to attach a different computer to cpdn as an existing user under the old name, not allowing it to fetch work, but clicking Update? I can\'t think of any other way to tell the server separately about your old account. After a day or two of clicking Update from time to time, would it then be useful to detach that computer from cpdn? Cpdn news |

Just in case it\'s not obvious: Changing the email/user name, WON\'T remove the beta credits from the \'old\' account; it SHOULD just stop any more being copied to there. What\'s already there will stay there, as with all unused accounts. |

mo.v said: True, I don\'t need the free credits, but the harm is that both accounts are in the same team and that is duplicate credits for one team. Granted not alot considering how little I have done. But if I was to start concentrating all my pc\'s onto the beta site somebody would notice the double credit. mo.v said: How are you supposed to do that? I have tried several times to attach to a project and told it \"No New Work\" or Network activity suspend but it would always download an initial WU when I did not want one. Just look at all of the unfinished WU\'s in my accounts. And I should not have to mention why I attach and not want a WU(CPID). Les Bayliss said: SHOULD is the reason for this whole thread. Both CPDN accounts have differant email addresses obviuosly, otherwise I broke David Anderson\'s account code. And the username was changed four days ago. But, I will do what mo.v says and wait till after this weekend and see what happens. But to tell the truth it\'s not BoincStats that I look at first. It\'s the actual accounts that reflect the credits, since I have them both bookmarked I can see that credit is coming from the beta site to both of them on a daily basis. BoincStats just has the historical daily data that I use to show you guys. Hrmmm, I wonder. I do have team pride. I wonder if I should start crunching beta wu\'s on all of my pc\'s. I wonder if I can create another account with my third isp email address that is identical to the other two. See that is the issue here I think the two differant email accounts that I have are the same before the @. Sooo, let me try something else here. I\'ll get back to you. |

Just wondering about the history of the two accounts here, just in case that sheds some light on what is happening. Have they both always had the same email addresses, or did the email address move from one to the other? Similarly, has the beta account\'s email address always been the same, or has it changed at some point? I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

I will try to answer most of the questions about the accounts. The first account was created and everything was fine. I moved across the country and got a new ISP and new email address, everything was fine for awhile then I started having split CPID issues across the projects. After going thru all of the projects and making sure the email and password are the same I found that the CPDN account would not let me in to change the email address. So in a moment of stupidity and not communicating to the board I created another account with the correct email and password and continued crunching. Now after the above discussions and much tinkering I have created a third account to test a few things and found that the initial problem still exists. The third account has no effect on either of the others so it is marked for deletion as well. The Beta account email/password was updated to the new ISP and has been working fine, except for the credits being sent to both the first and second account. Like mo.v and I said before, not a big deal except when it comes to team credits. If you go back and look at the history I was able to crunch multible wu\'s on the beta site and have all of the credits go to both accounts but the combined accounts credit is applied to the same team. Yea team. Any other ideas? |

Hi again I hope the \'DELETE ME\' is just a message to yourself? A lot of members make a mistake with their registration when they attach to extra projects or reattach to one they previously crunched for. It\'s not just you. It\'s me. It\'s several members of my team. Plus countless others, some of whom probably never notice they have split accounts. When I detached from CPDN then reattached, I then of course had to choose between \'existing member\' and \'new member\'. I didn\'t think I was an existing member because I\'d detached. Like a sports club - if you leave it, you\'re no longer an existing member. So I chose \'new member\' even though I realised I wasn\'t really new either. This forced me to introduce a different email address. I made this same mistake not once but twice, on both CPDN and BBC. I never guessed that introducing the extra email address would lead to split accounts and that this was, as BOINC used to say, an unrecoverable error. I wonder whether the wording on the Attach Wizard should explain the choice and the implications more clearly. Would it be better if the choice was * Existing or previous member. * New member. Select this if you have never attached to this project from any computer. (Barbud, my intention isn\'t to hijack your thread for a more general discussion, but maybe something can be done for the future to help people avoid getting split accounts within a project.) I hope the \'DELETE ME\' is just a message to yourself? No, they can be deleted. I am not using those accounts and if they can be deleted that would solve the problem of this whole thread. (Barbud, my intention isn\'t to hijack your thread for a more general discussion, but maybe something can be done for the future to help people avoid getting split accounts within a project.) Something to be done would be great but as you and I know, new users do not read all the rules or threads of a forum. |

Accounts can\'t be deleted, nor can old / obsolete / now non-existant computers be deleted from a user\'s list. |
