Let\'s face it. When it comes to economics, we are all nationalists or indivdualists ( except for the remaining leninists, fascists and their comtemporary coprorate supporters). But when it comes to the planet we are all trans-nationalists. If anyone believes otherwise, I would ask why you would inflate your local electric utility bill. The exercise we undertake is about science, or the the quixotic pursuit thereof. I want to keep that scientific focus, but alas, I am so distracted. So I really have to wonder about these \"teams\". I am on one team for Linux and another for the coporate machines I possess utilizing the operating system from Redmond Washington, USA. The one team, which assuredly must win is the human race and the other life forms on the planet deserving a fighting chance devoid of human interference. If there are like-minded, remaining members of my species, or what was once loosely called \"mankind\", pleae affirm or object. Burton Leed |

Hi Burton I don\'t think that everyone can be neatly placed in one of the categories you mention, but however we prefer our political, social and personal lives to be organised or disorganised, it must by now be obvious to almost everybody that the impact of humans on the planet is having increasingly severe and deleterious effects. The only forms of biomass that seem to be constantly growing are the escaped Japanese knotweed, animals for human consumption, and humans..... I don\'t think the message has yet been absorbed that the number of people alive has probably already reached the planet\'s carrying capacity, even before millions more are, as we hope, lifted out of poverty. I think it unlikely that any part of the planet will remain entirely free of human interference, but the only way we can tackle the problems is, as you say, by acting together as a team. Cpdn news |
