Hi, A Work Unit suddenly completed after 26-odd hours of processing. It showed \'Ready to Report\' as most other BOINC tasks usually do and on the next update it was gone. When I looked at my project stats it shows \'Client Error\' http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7239737 Does that mean it\'s a faulty WU? Else can it be restarted? I wouldn\'t want the 26 hours to go to waste... |

Hi, The error code is associated with closing the graphics. So I\'d make two suggestions: Firstly, disable the screensaver, and only click \'show graphics\' when you need to. Secondly, prior to shutting down Vista, right-click on the Boinc icon and select \'exit\' (Vista has a habit of killing workunits because it shuts down very aggressively). If I could point you towards the readmes (link in my sig), take a look at the \'crashes and other problems\' one. It has a Vista section which may help. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. Hi Pokrakam It would also be a good idea to look at the README about backups. Regularly backing up the contents of the BOINC folder is the only way to be sure that if you do have another model crash, you can restore a backup and continue the same model. I use the first easy manual backup method explained by Les. His restore method also works perfectly. Cpdn news |

Thanks for the feedback. I have a backup routine for my system, but unfortunately by the time I noticed the issue, the backups had already overwritten the last good one with the dodgy version. I do try to remember the close-before-shutdown but occasionally I forget. I think this may have happened. There must be a way for BOINC to pause windows shutdown until it\'s closed all tasks... BTW, I don\'t use the screensaver and the WU is one that I haven\'t viewed, so the error is a bit confusing. On a dual core system it will download more than one WU, and as I participate in various projects, BOINC has a habit of processing a \'primary\' WU (currently at 100h) and occasionally a second one (this one - crashed at 26h). Anyhow, does that mean the WU is dead and buried and I should forget about it? |

Anyhow, does that mean the WU is dead and buried and I should forget about it? Yes, afraid so. It might get sent to someone else but we can\'t assure that. "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

Pokrakam, it might be a good idea for you for example twice a week to make separate backups of the contents of the BOINC folder. I save the 3 most recent backups. If your automatic backup routine is scheduled to run without exiting from BOINC first, you cannot be completely certain that the BOINC folder contents could be successfully restored. Cpdn news |
