hi every time I reboot my machine BONIC seems to crash without any errors and starts to download a new work unit without finishing off the one thats currently being processed, why is this? |

Hi RubberNutter, The windows shutdown sequence isn't guaranteed to shut down programs in the same order as an exit from BOINC. This can result in file corruption and cause models to error on starting up. The only way you can guarantee that you're going to continue with the same model is by shutting down BOINC before rebooting. Join us here |

I didn't bother to record this event when it occurred because there is already plenty on the Boards on the topic. However, it may add a wee something to this thread...(?) A few nights ago, an extended power outage put my machines down the hard way -- by exhausting the UPS backup units. (A week earlier, I heard the beeping and raced to do the shutdown; this time, I slept through it all.) Three SuSE Linux P4 boxes on Reiser File Systems, one XP P4 box on FAT32. (Reiser is a journaling file system.) All Linux boxes took off immediately on restart. The M$ box thrashed through a HD/file system check, after which CPDNboinc took off normally. One Linux box started a pair of new models. (No details as to why, it was the last machine checked and I was satisfied that it was runing: Too anxious to get back to bed. I didn't notice that it had started fresh Models from scratch. If there is a next time, I'll be more observant.) The point is that, whatever the problem with stop/restart, it seems random and not prejudiced against one OS or file system. Not the easiest bug to swat. ________________________________________________ Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just. -- Thomas Jefferson |

hi, Unfortunally due to time being very limited I just posted the problem as a reply will come back quicker than me trawling the forum thanks for the replies :-) I was doing well as my system ain't been rebooted for 6 days, but I was installing the chinese language pack and a few other bits of software on a multi user system I had to reboot :-( I will just stop client for a reboot until problem is fixed. |
