This thread is for CPDN members considering joining the Beta2 testing project and who may wish to ask for advice before or after attaching. The original CPDN Beta project is no longer used. CPDN members should attach to Beta2 as a separate project and say they are new (not existing) members. It\'s important to give the same email address as for CPDN so the two accounts are compatible for when Tolu eventually transfers Beta2 credits to CPDN accounts. Beta testers shouldn\'t hide their computers as we need to be able to see the details of each others\' models. It\'s very helpful if testers enable email notification of private messages. Cpdn news |

Can I only join Beta by attaching to the project (as a new member) from BOINC client? Won\'t be ready to start for a few days until resource becomes available on one of my machines. So just wanted to initially edit preferences (esp. to select model type, no. of processors) before I\'m ready to go. But when trying the \"create an account\" link in Beta2 logon page it just goes to an empty page. Thanks IanSM |

Yes. It\'s a separate Project (though total credits are transferred to the main CPDN Project [except for current average]), so you must attach as a new member and set your preferences relative to CPDN (and other Projects) -- and for type of Model(s) desired. Note that BOINC Version 6.xx is necessary for some of the tests. "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

So you have to attach via BOINC Manager > Tools > Attach to project. It\'s important to use the same email address as on CPDN so your Beta credits get transferred to your main CPDN account. Cpdn news |

I\'m not sure wether the criterium for connecting the two accounts is EMail or CPID. If it is CPID, it will be necessary to have at least one PC connected to both projects (plus using the same EMail, that\'s understood, as the CPID cannot sync for two different EMails). |

Now see that all test apps. are labelled 6.xx. Do not wish to upgrade from version 5 at this time as the nominated quad still has a backlog of CM3 models to complete (estimated around early November). Had planned to attach to Beta from a BOINC 5 session with active CPDN models then run 2 from each project concurrently. If this is not a good idea (i.e. best to use a dedicated m/c for Beta testing) then I will defer testing until CM3 backlog completed and migrate to BOINC 6. |

The models do not interfer, I\'m running a HadRM Beta Spinup together with a HadCM3i from the main project under CC5.10.28 on a C2Q and so far they haven\'t complained. Even if some programs are labelled 6.xx, it is necessary to find out, how they are doing with older core clients - and there have been bugs \"available\" for both client generations as well ;-) The Spinups are not test runs btw., they prepare data for new models in the main project. |

Ditto: I\'m running two spin-ups and two coupled models on a quad and everything\'s fine. However, as Ananas says, the spin-ups are stable. The other model types require a bit more care and attention ... There are five spin-ups in the queue at the moment. I\'m not sure whether the queue size is accurate at low numbers, but you could snaffle a couple of those if you\'re quick. (Don\'t forget that there are model type preferences on beta as there are here - so you may want to set them before attaching a PC, otherwise you\'ll get lucky dip.) All the CPDN model types are being tested for full compatibility with BOINC 6, so I think you\'re right to stick with BOINC 5 for work here until the new apps are released here. |

The beta models are supposed to be backwards-compatible with BOINC5 as well, so there\'s nothing wrong with testing them on that. The 4-phase Beta HADSM models are the Mid-Holocene (MH) ones and I\'ve just downloaded one. Cpdn news |
