I am using BOINC manager 6.2 on an XP machine. I finally (after an hour‘s searching) found the Application Data folder in XP. This is the folder that contains the BOINC data folder needed to make backups in BOINC manager 6.2. The reason that it took so long is that XP hides this folder by default!IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF SOMEONE HAD WARNED US THAT XP HIDES THIS FOLDER AND WE NEED TO MAKE IT VISIBLE! To make the folder visible click: Start--Control Panel--folder options--View. Under view click “Show hidden files and folders.†Then click “apply†and “OKâ€Â. This will make the “Application Data†folder appear in \"All Users\" folder of \"Documents and Settings\". |

Thanks for telling me Jim. I\'ll make a note in my backup notes post, and try and remember it for when I upgrade latter in the year. |

How do I get the thing to quit booting with the BIOS without completely uninstalling it? IF I have to uinstall is there a way to save my work? I really don\'t like the idea of not being able to disable ANYTHING on my comp. |

I see that you\'ve posted in a couple of places. I\'ve answered in your other post. |

Did BOINC 6 also change what climate is logging in boinc.log? I was used to see output for each individual time step (\"hadsm3fub_00y8_005917643 - PH 2 TS 0221905...\") listing the model-type, phase/time step, simulated date, total CPU and average DT so far. This was the basis for some scripts which kept me posted where CPDN was. I notice this is no longer in the boinclog, since updating to boinc 6.2.15 (from 5.10.28). Not an issue just curious... |

Did BOINC 6 also change what climate is logging in boinc.log? Hmmm... does BOINC 6 suppress stdout/stderr? Does it write it to stdoutdae.txt? Perhaps you could search the BOINC forums for an answer to that question. http://boinc.berkeley.edu |

Did BOINC 6 also change what climate is logging in boinc.log? It did in Linux. Used to be starting boinc from a command line in a terminal window would have that listing for each checkpoint. In BOINC 6.x.x, it does not. I miss it. |

Sorry, probably there is an answer to my problem, but i did not found it :( I shifted to BOINC 6.2.16 on 2 of my computers. Both of them are working perfectly, but new accounts were created on the server: ask-modern 799260 -> 821156 ASK-MSI 799541 -> 897413 \"ask-modern\" is still crunching the same model as it was doing with ver. 5, so it seems to be no problem, it\'s working with the account 799260, while 821156 is empty. But ASK-MSI had crashed and received a new task. I found it several days later, did restore the previous task (7369481, Workunit 6152105) from the backup and got it running. But now it\'s not reflected neither on old account 799541, nor on the new 897413 ! Meanwhile the computer send trickle-up messages and exchange information with the server! I\'m afraid the work will be lost... :(( |

First, a little clarifaction. 1) When you talk of \"new accounts\", what you really mean are new computer IDs. It\'s normal for this to happen after restoring a backup. 2) The Work unit ID is only of use to compare your version of a model to the same one being run on someone elses computer. The number to quote is the Task ID ************ As for your problem, it\'s possible that you restored a backup originally made under BOINC version 5, to your new BOINC version 6. You can\'t do this, as version 6 splits data and programs to different locations. See the News and Announcements thread in the Number crunching part of the board for some info about this. And the links in the original post in this thread for lots more, especially the FAQ link. |

Hi Ask Spb I think it should be possible to sort things out without losing the models. Here is your list of computers. Click on All computers. You really have 4 computers, but there are 6 in the list because, as you said, two have duplicate records. *1. In that list, click on either computer #799260 or #821156. At the bottom of the page with the computer\'s details you will see a button Merge this Computer. Click on the button. On the new page you also need to click Merge. There should now be 5 computers in your list. *2. Do the same for computer #799541 or #897413. There should now be 4 computers in your list. But this is the problem computer! *3. On both those machines open BOINC Manager and in the Projects tab/window select climateprediction and click Update. Both computers should now produce a message giving a new computer ID number. *3. We need to know what this new computer ID number is for the problem machine. *5. On the problem computer, tell us the name(s) of the model(s) listed in the BOINC Manager Tasks tab/window. *6. On the problem computer I want you to look at the BOINC Data folder/directory. You should find it here: Windows XP: C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\BOINC\\ Double-click on the BOINC folder to look at the contents. DON\'T MOVE OR DELETE ANYTHING! At the top of the list of contents you will see 2 yellow sub-folders (sub-directories) called Projects and Slots. We need to know if there is also a third sub-folder called Locale. Now close X that window. When you have done all that and answered the questions, I hope we can decide what you should do next. I hope the weather is better in Russia than it is here in England..... Hi Ask Spb Great! *2. Do the same for computer #799541 or #897413. There should now be 4 computers in your list. But this is the problem computer! Done. Both finished merging with errors, but one merging produced the following result: ----------------- Warning: Missing argument 3 for hosts_compatible(), called in /var/www/boinc/projects/cpdnboinc/html/inc/host.inc on line 409 and defined in /var/www/boinc/projects/cpdnboinc/html/inc/host.inc on line 317 Merging host 799260 into host 821156 Database Error Error: Couldn\'t update results ------------ And! now they don\'t want to merge anymore! :)) Thus I have 799260 working and 821156 empty. Should I simply delete 821156 ? *3. We need to know what this new computer ID number is for the problem machine. The problem computer ID is 897413. *5. On the problem computer, tell us the name(s) of the model(s) listed in the BOINC Manager Tasks tab/window. Is doing task hadcm3istd_0io3_1920_160_05939925_0 (using hadcm3i version 544) *6. No, the sub-folder Locale is not there, it\'s in the folder BOINC in Program Files When you have done all that and answered the questions, I hope we can decide what you should do next. No chance. It\'s as bad, as predicted ;) But I still have faith for Indian Summer :) |

Hi again Just to remind us, here are your computers. There have been problems today with the CPDN servers. They have been very slow, probably because the programmers have been extracting model data for the researchers. That\'s why you had those error messages when you merged the computer records. The servers seem to be working normally now, so you could * On your Ask-modern computer, in the BOINC Manager Projects window, select Climateprediction and click the Update button. If computer record #7821156 doesn\'t disappear from your results page, open its computer web page and if you can click Delete this computer (or Merge this computer) at the bottom of the page. * Now your ASK-MSI computer. I\'m glad that the Locale folder isn\'t in the BOINC Data folder. It\'s where it should be. This means that your BOINC version 6 files and folders are in the 2 correct locations. (BOINC5 and BOINC6 files are not mixed up in your BOINC6 Data folder, so that\'s good.) You also have the correct restored task ******39925_0 (#736481) running on ASK-MSI (computer 877413). You should click Update in BOINC Manager on this computer and we will if necessary wait 24 hours to see if all the computer\'s credits appear. If you want you can click Update several times! This restored model will send trickles for repeated processing to the server, but only new trickles for new model years processed will show on the model\'s web page. Now that you have BOINC6 on both these computers, you only need to back up the BOINC Data folder, not the BOINC folder. I don\'t think you\'ve lost any models. The models you want are all there. And if you made a backup of task #7991668, you could restore it to the same computer or a different one when you have a computer that needs a new model. But if it\'s a BOINC6 backup, you should restore it to the Data folder of a computer with BOINC6, not BOINC5. Hope that helps. Cpdn news |

Fine! The computers had finally merged (I did merging by name) and both computers are updating their records. Still waiting for credits for ASK-MSI to appear. And waiting another month till it will calculate to the break point :) Thank you much for help! |

The moderators have reported to the programmers that trickles and credits are very delayed for CPDN. Sometimes the server sub-programs for trickle and credit updates and the credit export to the stats sites don\'t function automatically as they should. Milo then has to run them manually. But Milo\'s at a BOINC conference in Grenoble. He can run some server programs from his laptop, but I think you\'ll just need to be patient. I see you now have only 4 computers correctly listed so that\'s better than before. Cpdn news |

I just wanted to post that I have run linux Fedora 8 with BOINC 6.4.5 for at least a month now. There have been no problems. I had some issues with 6.2 and Rosetta project, so that is why I upgraded. Graphics also work fine with Climate using the NVIDIA driver 169.07. |
