I just started back crunching ClimatePrediction, & I\'m surprised to see this first one taking 2,935 hours to complete. Will I live this long? |

Will I live this long? Probably, yes! This isn\'t atypical for a CPDN workunit, but there are shorter ones available, set on your \"preferences\" page. My Intel duo 8400 processors go through the longer units in about 1650 hrs. Also, there is a great sense of satisfaction in completing a unit after that length of time. John |

I just started back crunching ClimatePrediction, & I\'m surprised to see this first one taking 2,935 hours to complete. Just grabbed a couple yesterday on my 950D dual-core, and the Coupled 5.44 model I got is quoting 3600hrs to complete. I know this will drop, but that sounds like a big one! That\'s 5 months roughly.... Neil. |

OK, thankx. At least I know that it isn\'t a mistake somehow. I\'ll get \'er whittled down in a couple of years. LOL! |

I just wanted everyone to know that I\'ve got my WU whittled down to 2818 hours more. LOL! I need a quad. |

There\'s still quite a high probability that you\'ll finish the model before SETI finds ETI. But Mt St Helens may explode first. I hope you\'re backing up the contents of the BOINC5 or BOINC6 Data folder whenever you get a chance because that\'s the only way to almost guarantee completion, particularly with the 160 year models. When I had an old slow computer it took me nearly a year to finish one of these, and that was after transferring it to a new faster machine. Cpdn news |

BOINC needs to learn the duration correction factor for the combination of this project with your computer. The estimated time is set for computers with only the basic x86 command set I guess - and it\'s better to set it a bit too high so computers pull a bit less work than they can handle - rather than too much. A few models later, your BOINC client will know (and estimate) better :-) The slowest PC I have crunched CPDN models with is a Dual Pentium IIIs/1266 btw., quite thrilling ;-) (that computer isn\'t visible in my host list anymore as I recycled the Host ID) |

Well the computer I\'m running is a P4 3.4 GHz hyperthreading processor with a 1.5 Gig ram. Not really small, but no dog either. I think Climate Prediction should think about smaller WUs. Sigh. But I\'m sharing the crunching with two other projects, so I think I\'m jumping around a bit. |

There ARE smaller WUs; you just didn\'t select one in prefs. Thank you! My wife always says I don\'t read the instructions. I\'ve updated my preferences to 1 model year. About 15 days. Now I hope that I still can continue my 1 trillion year project. At least now I can return some WUs before the world ends. :-) I probably should have read GW3PRV\'s post HERE. Serves me right I suppose. You gotta love newbies. :-( |

We love all newbies. But when you said \'I\'ve updated my preferences to 1 model year.\' what exactly did you mean? Cpdn news |

We love all newbies. But when you said \'I\'ve updated my preferences to 1 model year.\' what exactly did you mean? My guess : HadAM3 => Duration = 1 model year HadAM3 are quite demanding though (RAM requirements), so if you have trouble running those, choose HadSM3 instead. |

I just started back crunching ClimatePrediction, & I\'m surprised to see this first one taking 2,935 hours to complete. 2935 hours to complete isn’t so bad. I have been running a HadC3 for 4102 hours and it is only 89% complete. I figure that it will take another 3 weeks running 24/7 to finish. |

We love all newbies. But when you said 'I've updated my preferences to 1 model year.' what exactly did you mean? You probably had that right Ananas. I picked the smallest one I could find. And now I've got 2006 hours with 45% done. I'm hanging with this thing if it fries my computer. I've gone too long to let it go now. |
