I have 1 x hadsm3 5.06 model and 2 x hadsm3 6.07 models currently runing on boinc 5.10.45. The 5.06 model has graphics but both 6.07 models have the \'SHOW GRAPHICS\' button greyed out. Is this normal? (I thought I read somewhere that these models were backward compatible). Bruce |

I have 1 x hadsm3 5.06 model and 2 x hadsm3 6.07 models currently runing on boinc 5.10.45. My understanding is that a higher version of BOINC is backward compatible, but not forward compatible. I wonder why you even got a 6.xx task? |

DJ is correct about the direction of the compatability. V6 models will be sent to computers that are running V5 of BOINC, as they will still run OK, even though the graphics are not visible. Backups: Here |

DJ is correct about the direction of the compatability. Thanks, I may have to upgrade to a V6 then if I get a model that misbehaves. Bruce |

DJ is correct about the direction of the compatability. Found where I had previously read about compatibility forum thread id=5447, message 34888 \"The BOINC6-compliant model versions are backwards-compatible; this means that if we decide to keep BOINC version 5 we will be able to see the graphics of these new model versions. So we are not yet obliged to upgrade to BOINC6\" also message 35024 \"Some members running HADSM version 6.** models (ie recently downloaded ones) and HADSM mid-Holocene models have reported that they cannot see their models\' graphics. There is a backwards-compatibility problem with these models. When running on BOINC5 their graphics may only be available some of the time. My problem is the reverse - I am fairly certain I could see the graphics up until a rugrat found the power switch for my computer, after rugrat proofing, restoring power and restarting I noticed the problem. If I have a wayward model I might try exit/restart as above before I upgrade. Bruce |

The intention was to make the new graphics compatible in both directions. But it hasn\'t worked out that way. Whether or not graphics is available without a BOINC upgrade is random; If it works, great. If it doesn\'t, commiserations. It\'s probably dependent on the hardware/software on which it\'s running. Any changes to this, such as updates, may cause it to stop working. In this case, perhaps just turning off the computer caused the problem; whatever was in memory at the time which allowed the graphics to still work, was lost when the power went. Backups: Here |

CPDN Version 6.02 work unit. There is known incompatibility in graphics between boinc 5.nn and CPDN v.6.n work units. In Windows, some of my Runs regained graphics after boinc was shut down and restarted. Can\'t count on it, though. Much as it pains me to write it, best solution is to install boinc 6.2.19. (Be sure to check the READMEs for changes before installing boinc 6; there are significant changes in boinc 6.)
