THANK GOD! Sometimes it seemed that this day would never arrive. The Bush Administration, the worst anti-environmental administration in American history, is finely over. It has been thrown on the ash heap of history.

Now maybe the United States can resume its rightful place as one of the leaders in the fight to save our environment from the ravages of runaway climate change. It’s going to take a lot of work. The large greenhouse gas emitters are well dug in well financed, and they intend to fight.

The overwhelming scientific consensus in that global warming is real and that it is already underway. I don’t think that any of us would be taking part in this project if we didn’t believe that. If we are to escape the worst effects of global warming we are going to have to cut CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050. Time is short. The Bush Administration’s denial and foot dragging cost us almost a decade.

I am calling on all Americans to contact President Obama and their members of Congress and demand that strong, enforceable caps be put in place to first halt and then greatly decrease the amount of greenhouse gasses that we put into atmosphere.
If you don’t know how to contact your Congress people (one Representative and 2 Senators) try looking up the Sierra Club, the National Audubon Society or Greenpeace websites on your computers.

People reading this in other countries might also consider sending President Obama a friendly message stating your support for strong U.S. action to curb global warming. The White House email address is President@whitehouse.gov
