I am running BOINC 6.4.4 on a 32-bit machine running Linux Mint 8 and for whatever reason, the graphics for all CPDN projects wont display correctly.

This is a typical picture.

And this is a picture when a dark background is placed behind the graphics window.

The same happened in both full screen and windowed mode.

What\'s the deal?

Has the globe graphics display ever worked correctly in Linux on that PC?

What video card is in that PC?

Do you have \"Desktop effects\" or \"Visual effects\" enabled? This would usually be an option under Preferences somewhere. This is generally the cause of graphical anomalies such as this.

No it hasn\'t. It wasn\'t until now that I finally got around to asking about it.

What video card is in that PC?

PNY GeForce 8500 GT, and it IS recognized by BOINC according to the logs.

I had a few enabled, but disabling them didn\'t help.

Do you think this is just a graphics card support problem?

After getting home from work, I enabled Visual/Desktop Effects in my Appearance Preferences in Ubuntu 8.10 32bit. When I did that, I saw exactly the same symptoms as you are seeing. Disabling all Visual Effects made the problem go away. This was with a Nvidia GeForce 7600GT, driver version 180.11. Perhaps your Linux version won\'t allow complete disabling of all visual effects/
