Message 43122 - Posted: 1 Oct 2011, 21:05:33 UTC - in response to Message 42971.

I have seen no reply to my message. In the meantime, I have reset the project, rebooted my computer, uninstalled my Boinc 6.12.34, and installed a newer Boinc 6.12.35 . What else can I do? Anyone?

marnix

There have been so many posts in this thread that I'm not replying individually to each one. And the reply may well be several posts after the original, and it's clear that a lot of people aren't even reading the latest post before they add to the list.

Your computer was re-enabled soon after you said that you'd reset it.
But it's clear from the list of models on your computer 1099887 that you haven't fixed the problem.

If this continues for another 24 hours, I'm going to ask for that computer to be blocked again until it is fixed. Which consists of doing a Detach (or Remove), and then re-attaching again.

And these are the links that I keep posting for the benefit of people directed to this thread.

Please post again when this has been done. Then, during the next UK working day, one of the project's programmers will unblock your computer(s).

The project has been notified.
However, please note the latest post in the News thread at the top of the Number crunching section. Downloads probably won't be available for a little while.

Message 43139 - Posted: 5 Oct 2011, 2:30:46 UTC - in response to Message 43119.

You mention BAM several times, so you'll have a different Manager. And it looks like the buttons have different labels, so I don't know what to advise about the wording.
This being the case, you'll need to Disconnect/Remove/????? via BAM, and then to re-attach/??????, also via BAM.

edit
Try the Remove button. :)

In BOINC Manager I did a "Stop Using BoincStats BAM!", only then could I "remove" the project via the button (which was previously grayed out). I quit BOINC Manager then detached, quit it and then added the project to BOINCStats BAM!, started up BOINC Manager again and turned on BOINCStats BAM! as manager again.

Can you please once again start accepting work from my host? I'll see if this works.

Thanks,
Don[/i]

Message 43364 - Posted: 4 Nov 2011, 17:31:14 UTC

I recently received a message from climateprediction that I have a misconfigured BOINC installation.

I believe this has something to do with my update to the Lion OS and paired BOINC app update. I had some general issues with other BOINC projects too, but after a reinstall and some permissions updating other BOINC projects are now running smoothly. How do I determine if the climateprediction project now runs without issues?

My machine info:

Thanks

Hi Charles,

I thought the moderators had created a "sticky" post about OS X problems with updating BOINC, but apparently not.

I found this on the other bulletin board: Tasks crash on Mac after upgrading to BOINC 6.12.26.

Browndavenell

I don't know what the problem is in your case, so I've posted on our other board about it.
With the exception of the FAMOUS models, your computer has crashed every model that it's received a few seconds after starting it since the middle of November last year.

What I would do:
1. Whatever antivirus program you are running, exclude the boinc and boincdata directories and subdirectories from scanning.
2. Upgrade BOINC to a later version, I would suggest 6.10.60
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
3. Startup boincmanager and click on climateprediction.net in the projects tab. Then click on the "reset project" button.

After you have done that, let us know and we will get one of the project computer guys to re-enable work fetch for your PC.

I excluded the avast av from scanning the directories.
Then installed version 6.10.60.
Then I reset the project.
If you would re-enable the work fetch, I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again !!

Here's one: 1096954. Looks like a Mac + BOINC 6.12 issue.

My BOINC software doesn't seem to be working properly. I have tried to redownload the software from the BOINC site but I never seem to get through.

Here is the link that was sent to me:

The whole of the BOINC & SETI sites have been down for several days now, so no one can get new BOINC software.

As to your problem, you can see from the computer page that a large number of models have been wasted. All have failed within a few seconds of starting.
(Actually, all 3 of your computers are just crashing models seconds after starting.)

The error listed for them isn't clear to me, but it might be a corrupted file, or it might be your anti virus software blocking the programs.

You could try a project Reset. This will delete all of the projects files, and force the download of new copies. But this doesn't explain why ALL of your computers would be affected.

Have you excluded ALL of the BOINC data section from AV scanning?

All three of your computers are running Darwin. There is a problem with Macs and certain versions of BOINC explained in this thread of the Mac forum

I'd forgotten about that version 6.10 > 6.12 problem until just after George posted.
And your Macbook Pro, if it's running 64 bit software, may have the other problem, as posted here at the top of the Linux forum: You don't have the 32 bit programs that the models need.
