I've asked for it to be unblocked, but it may be a while yet before the project has more work.

Thank you,
I still don't understand why the climateprediction projects have been working fine for a long time with previous Boing preferences,and suddenly all the models failed.No changes were made to the program,though
Do you have any hint on this?
Thanks again for your help,

Message 48899 - Posted: 25 Apr 2014, 16:59:44 UTC - in response to Message 48898.
Last modified: 25 Apr 2014, 17:16:53 UTC

In the stderr output seen on the failed task webpages for that computer, it gives the following error:

../../projects/climateprediction.net/hadam3p_anz_6.10_i686-pc-linux-gnu: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This suggests that the 32bit compatibility libraries are not installed on that computer. See this sticky in the Unix/Linux forum for more information.

Since you have a recent version of Ubuntu/Debian installed, you may have to follow the advice linked in "Edit 1" or "Edit 2" of that sticky. Once you can do the "sudo ldd" in Edit 2 on all the cpdn executables without any unsatisfied dependencies being found, let us know and we'll have Andy reenable that computer to be able to fetch work.

For client referenced below:
http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1229740

After reviewing parts of this forum, I adjusted my anti-virus scanner to except the program and data directories used for BOINC. The system should be ready to receive a now model to see if that corrects the problem.

This suggests that the 32bit compatibility libraries are not installed on that computer. See this sticky in the Unix/Linux forum (and the link to the boinc wiki therein) for more information.

Since you are running 64 bit RH 6 (or clone), follow the advice of the boinc wiki link in that sticky about Fedora. Then run ldd on the executables in the .../projects/climateprediction.net directory to make sure all the dependencies have been satisfied. Once you can do the "ldd" in Edit 2 on all the cpdn executables without any unsatisfied dependencies being found, let us know and we'll have Andy reenable that computer to be able to fetch work.

I've done what was suggested on the wiki page and installed all of the libraries that were missing.

For future reference, I found that this command was helpful to determine if I was missing anything. I ran this in the CPDN project folder to determine if there was anything that wasn't found:

find . -regex '^.*gnu$' -type f -exec ldd {} \; | grep "found"

Everything looks good now. Thanks!

Alright. I've notified Andy and hopefully it will be re-enabled this week.

BTW, that command looks like a nice way to quickly find any dependencies with ldd. I'll have to remember that.

Hi all,
I got a message that my computer is crashing models. Not sure why, I don't recall doing anything to any of the BOINC stuff and my other projects (e.g. SETI) are running OK.

I got this sent in the email:

Anyone got any ideas as to a fix; even if it's just delete and re-install?
Thanks,
Paul

The best clue is in this sticky at the top of the Linux section: 64 bit Linux and CPDN - problems/solutions.
You need to load the 32 bit libraries to run climate models.

Hi Les (again)
I ran ldd against the hadadm3p_eu_* files and got libstdc++.so.6 as missing.
I've installed the 32bit lib files now and get this for hadam3p_eu_6.09.i686-pc-linux-gnu:
ldd hadam3p_eu_6.09_i686-pc-linux-gnu
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xf776a000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0xf7732000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0xf772d000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.6 (0xf7643000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0xf7600000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xf75e3000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0xf742f000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf776b000)

Would you say that I'm now 'good go go' (again) and, if so, who and how do I let them know that my box is fixed?
Thanks for you help,

Paul

Hi Paul, as soon as one of the admins sees your post, they will email the project people to re-enable work being sent to your computer.

Hi,

I have installed windows updates, reloaded and removed and added climateprediction to Boinc. Please let me know if this is still a problem or what else I might be able to do to resolve this.

The problem computer is:

Wes,

You need to update BOINC to 7.2.42. The 7.2.39 version has major problems with downloads.
