... They ALL run Ubuntu Linux 14.04 with all updates applied. ... Ubuntu downloads the updates that it needs and its applications need. BOINC is middleware so it no doubt gets updated from time-to-time as well (though not very often in my experience). However, BOINC doesn't attempt to know what dependencies its client applications might need. The 32-bit libraries are a dependency of the CPDN application, which is why this problem arises. The solution is presumably to build 32- and 64-bit versions of the CPDN science applications. In the interim the 32-bit libraries have to be installed manually where they are missing, as Les says. |

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=6746#38077 Is the thread which gives instructions as to how to resolve the 32 bit libs problem. Post there if you are still having problems. |

NONE of my computers run Microsoft Windows of any version. They ALL run Ubuntu Linux 14.04 with all updates applied. ClimatePrediction is one of the FEW applications for BOINC that fails to run in BOINC 7.2.42, 7.3.15 and 7.4.8 According to your list of computers http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1334275 http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1332946 are set by the IT staff to no new work. If you followed the information in the thread that Dave Jackson linked about installing 32 bit libraries on both computers, and running an ldd on the hadxx executables doesn't return any needed dependencies, then we'll have the IT people re-enable work. |

Hi There, Welcome to the CPDN message boards. Have a look at this thread, which says how to install the 32-bit libraries that are needed by the CPDN application. If you have any questions about that process then please post back here and someone will answer them. Also post back here when the libraries have been installed, so that a message can be passed on to the project staff to unblock that PC. |

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1150440 Well, I got the email. Didn't say what was causing it, so I upgraded by client to the latest 64bit version. |

Well, I got the email. Didn't say what was causing it, so I upgraded by client to the latest 64bit version. Have you installed the 32 bit libs that are needed for the CPDN applications? See thread below for details and how to do this. Not entirely sure this is problem as the stderr doesn't say that libs are missing which it often does in these cases. http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=6746 |

With that missing what-ever-it-is (execv), it may be a permissions problem. Looking at your home page though, your computer seems to be a professional data set killer, so it'll be staying in the Naughty Corner until it behaves itself. |

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1150440 You posted that you'd installed the 32-bit libraries on that computer on 30 Sep 2011. Looking at the appropriate point in your list of tasks it's clear that you started returning good results after that but the problem started happening again on 29 Oct 2011, presumably after the 32-bit libraries were lost in an upgrade. I just received this email: Your computer (host # 1329784) described below appears to have a misconfigured BOINC installation and is crashing models. Please include this link so that we may more easily find your computer: http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1329784 I recently installed the Linux Ubuntu OS on my PC. Perhaps I may have to re-intall the app. |

Hello Barry Or you could just install the 32 bit library files, as per this thread at the top of the board's Linux section. :) Note my last post there, as this is the message that's showing up in all of your failures. You may have problems with this, as it's an old version (6), needed for compatibility with older OSs. Some installers helpfully remove this in favour of the current (8) version of the file. :( If you do, you may be able to use my "sledgehammer" approach, as per this message. |

Did you also install the 32 bit libraries, as per the post at the top of the Linux section? |

WYSIWYG - I have found it helpful to open the UBUNTU terminal and start the BOINC Manager from there. Detailed error messages about missing libraries will then be displayed. |

Looking at one of the tasks confirms it is 32bit libs missing 6-pc-linux-gnu: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory |

Dear all, I received the message for one of my computers. http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1331308 Unfortunately I don't have access very often to this computer, so I will deattach the project through BOINCstats until I can take a closer look. Thanks, Yacob |

Go to the thread at the top of the linux section which explains how to install the 32bit libs needed for running CPDN under BOINC. Without them a linux machine will crash all CPDN tasks. Once installed post back to this thread and someone will take away the , "-1" from the computer which stops it from getting any new work. |

The problem is right there in your listing: Operating System: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64The cure is the same as for the previous poster: install the missing 32 bit libraries, as per the post at the top of the Linux section: 64 bit Linux and CPDN - problems/solutions |

Perhaps the email that goes out to owners of misconfigured computers should include a link to the 64 bit linux post and also to the Mac post about machines that have upgraded BOINC and then crash everything? |
