There is a boinc client for OpenSolaris (boinc version 6.2.19).

I\'ve downloaded this and installed it and have attached it to my climateprediction.net account. However, it appears that no work is being done. I notice this in the boinc_client output log:

03-May-2010 10:05:53 [climateprediction.net] Message from server: platform \'i386-pc-solaris\' not found

Are there any plans to have support for this platform soon?

I found another solution.

OpenSolaris supports running Linux in a \"zone\" (like a virtual machine).

There is instructions for installed \"Archlinux\" in a zone here:

http://wiki.genunix.org:8080/wiki/index.php/Installing_Arch_Linux_in_a_branded_zone

After getting that running and doing an Archlinux update:

# pacman -Syu

I could install boinc

# pacman -S boinc

Up and running.
Cheers,
Matt

I have installed OpenSolaris a a guest OS on my Linux via VirtualBox, but the only application I could find running on OpenSolaris was a SETI@home app by a developer called Dotsch. Also the BOINC client for OpenSolaris is by him. So SETI@home is running both on Linux and OpenSolaris, but on OpenSolaris is about 4 times slower, this because my Opteron 1210, SSE3 capable, is seen only as a Pentium_Pro+mmx. Dotsch says that this is not the fault of his BOINC client but of VirtualBox.
