If anyone is looking for short projects that can be run in a few hours as a fill in while waiting for new work to become available on CPDN I recommend either Rosetta@home or Malaria Control. These projects always seem to have work available.

Congrats - I seem to be missing out on what (little) work there is to be had :-(

Is there a 'Good Time' to request new work (in GMT please)?

Thanks for the congrats - may be premature - the WU crashed. Though I have had an EU regional model download since.

That batch of CM3n models were all defective. CO2 values set to high creating a runaway greenhouse effect like on Venus. Apparently, the models don't like it when the oceans boil off. ;-)

Everyone please subscribe to the News thread at the top of Number crunching.
Then you'll get to hear about these problems.

Bill

There's no 'good time'.
Just stay connected 24/7 and you'll eventually get some work.
(Once the current 'forcing' problem is fixed, of course.)

Well, I've not had any work from the project since the end of May. The PC is always on, and downloads and uploads happily on other projects.

All of which has been explained here in the News and Announcements thread.

I've just added some more there, to try and make it even clearer.

Despite the new work being flagged in 'News' I still haven't picked up any! PC sitting here with no Climate Prediction to work on :-(

Are there still work units still available or will I have to just wait until I get lucky?

All of the hadcm3n models went within a few hours, and the bulk of the regional models turned out to be faulty for reasons as yet unknown, and were withdrawn.
The few regional models that were auto re-gens also went fast.

If your computer isn't just sitting there with no work from other projects, and constantly asking for work from here, then the chances of getting anything are close to zero.
Especially as there is now a one hour compulsory backoff period following any contact with the servers, to try to spread the few models over as many computers as possible.

I hate to be a nudge, but, does anyone know when there will more hadam3p WU?s. I only ask because in about a week I will have an empty core and I would prefer not to download another CM3n on that machine.

I've had no work offerred for over a week. Now 30th July 2011. News that the server is online again made me hopeful, but no result. Notices received to ask for more disc space meant i increased disc space to 6gb. No result. Shall i continue to wait patiently?

hello andrew

"server status" shows 348 HadAM3p-eu work units available...so being patient is probably about all we can do...

There are at least a few hundred hadam3p available at this moment.

Things to consider are -- preferences? set at your account page.

Various BOINC preferences for disk space.

Current workload for other projects.

I know I have received several hadam3p wu in the last few days.

<edit>

Please check any specific messages from your BOINC client as to why no work available.

I see that we are back to no work being available. At present I have enough work for 6 to 8 days. Any idea when more WU?s of any type will be ready.

There is work available, but the generation of hadam3p models is happening very slowly, and they are being grabbed instantly by the 10s of thousands of computers wanting work.

Ok, thanks. I will just leave my preferences on allows new tasks and set the work buffer at 10 days and hope to snag a couple of those WU?s before I have empty cores.
