I have noticed that for about a week now The CPDN credits show on my account, but do not make it to any of the combined stat sites such as Boinc All Combined Stats, Boinc Stats, Free-DC , etc. Is there a problem with the tables they look up? CoCoRaHS NJ-HN-8 |

The project is still having problems with the new enhancement, as per the News and Announcements thread. I couldn't find anything in the 'News and Announcements' about cross-project statistics not being updated... Apparently they haven't been for over a week now. So... will there be a huge bump in credits shown by BOINCstats, etc. when the problem gets solved? Just wondering... |

Oh Foo! I see that an outdated BONC stats user id is associated with my signature! Now I'll have to go figure out how to enter the correct one... |

To summarise the credits problem: A few weeks ago, the project people added a new message to the Status column of the results page. This resulted in a lot of unexpected and unwanted side effects. One of these was to do with the trickle data. Credits are produced by a program that translates trickles to varying amounts of credit, depending on the model type. This program isn't and won't be run until the various other problems are sorted out. So the programs that produce export files containing, among other things, credits data, aren't being created. The project people are methodically working their way through the problems. And yes, there will be a big jump in participants credits when it's all fixed. Backups: Here |

The third party sites (at least DC) have now received the updated credits. Thanks guys for the upload. Still being patient for the downloads. Cheers |

I'm not seeing this... boincstats showed a partial update several days ago but hasn't changed since, and my team site hasn't updated for weeks. Is it definite that CPDN is exporting stats normally now? |

No. Tune-in to the News and Announcement thread and be up with all the latest skinny. Relax! You can't buy anything with the credits (or am I misinformed?), so a delay is nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Credits have ALWAYS been sorted out -- after real problems were set aright . . . as long timers surely know. That's not a complaint, but an observation. Obviously the science is the point, and I contribute to this project because I think that it's making important headway in understanding the most critical issue of our time. |

I know this may be difficult to answer but what with no new work and a fortnights delay (to date) in updating stats, can we be given any idea when normal servicemay be resumed? |

The only definite answer is: In the future. Like ducks on a pond, it may seem calm and serene on the surface, but behind the scenes, there's frantic activity. Please note however, that unlike in the past, this project seems to be entering a phase where the amount of work at any one time is limited. Tens of thousands of computers, most running this project part time, is not what's needed now. Rather a thousand or so fast, dedicated computers, that can get the results back quickly. Please note however, that unlike in the past, this project seems to be entering a phase where the amount of work at any one time is limited. Tens of thousands of computers, most running this project part time, is not what's needed now. Rather a thousand or so fast, dedicated computers, that can get the results back quickly. Exactly, Les. But this is a serious point to ponder. For over a week (since returning from a short holiday), I have kept the door open in one of my 3 quick and dedicated (24/7) systems - i.e. one of your "thousand". As expected, no new models so will continue to keep the door open. However, when a new batch is released, will I receive any? Or will many of the "tens of thousands" grab them first? Would not be happy if that happened. Missed the last batch of cm3N models when on holiday. My main GPU project is GPUGrid. Their scientists demand fast turnaround so applications are optimised for mid to high end GPU cards. Users of light weight cards are politely but firmly advised to redirect them to other projects. Incidentally, GPUGrid does not "pay" as well as other (Nvidia) GPU projects. This is a good thing so the project attracts users who are committed to the importance of the research. Rather than being credit hunters and gatherers :) How about advising users with low powered / part time systems to wait until CPDN returns to those heady days of multiple model types and copious supply? There are some good alternative projects for more modest systems - e.g. Rosetta, Malaria and the very popular WCG where they are happy to use any hardware for multiple research causes. Even a very slow machine can complete a WU in less than a day. Are there performance stats by CPU so, like some other projects (mainly GPU), lists can then be compiled for "Highly Recommended" / "Recommended" / "Not Recommended" systems? |

If you only need fast machines, then you should set that as a requirement. For example, WCG sends certain tasks only to "fast and reliable" machines, where fast means short turnaround time, and reliable that the last N tasks were returned without errors. |

Ian The recent posts in the News and Announcements thread should explain why you didn't get any work in the past week. And for everyone: It must also be kept in mind what was probably posted a long time ago now - There were only about 3,000 models issued for the spinup part of the hadcm3n series. And each subsequent batch will be the next phase, automatically generated from those in the first batch that completed. Some of them will have been aborted, some abandoned, and some will still be running on computers with low resources for this project. So the number issued for the 2nd batch will be less than 3,000. And the project's front page says that there are currently 34,812 active computers. Down a fair bit from the 40,000+ of a few weeks ago, but still a less than 1 in 10 chance of getting a hadcm3n. There'll be a better chance when the next lot of regional models get released, but that won't happen until after the ongoing problems with the RAPIT lot is sorted out. Backups: Here |

I would understand the lack of updates on the external stats sites if the credits were not calculated in the first place. However, as we can see on Boinc Manager’s Statistics tab, the credits are actually calculated almost every day. Is it really so difficult to put the credits file available for the third party stats sites? I know that you have a science-based deadline at mid-August for the third batch of CM3N, so you should only send work to computers that can meet your requirements, or to send it to so many that at least some would meet the deadline. |
