I got a message this evening that Climateprediction needs more disk space - it has only 1GB on my machine, and it needs 2GB.

I can't see where I tell BOINC to allow more space, and nobody else seems to have asked that question.

I'm sure it's very simple, but this old man can't find where to adjust the disk space available.

Odder yet: looking at the disk space usage shown in BOINC, Climateprediction is already using 4.3GB - so why it thinks it only has 1GB beats me.

This has been asked and answered many times on many projects.
But it is tricky, as there are 3 interactive options.
These are on your Account page on this server, under the Computing preferences section, Disk and memory usage.

Simpler than that, though, is Climateprediction is already using 4.3GB!
This much isn't needed and shouldn't get used. It usually means that you've had some failures over the years, which are still taking up space.
Models only clean up after they finish, if they Do completely finish.

So the thing here is to look at your Tasks tab, and make a note of the names of those that are running. Just the 4 character code is sufficient; e.g. for hadcm3n_yhw1_, it's yhw1
Then look at the list of sub-folders on your computer under projects > climateprediction.net, and delete any folders that AREN'T currently in Tasks.

In 'Your account' (in blue, at left), in general Prefs, set Disk and Memory Usage parameters as desired.

Same thing can be done in boinc manager, Advanced, Disk and Memory Usage tab.

Edit:
Beat me again, Les and, as usual, did a better job.

Thanks for those. The information isn't readily apparent on the Climateprediction site, although it's much more evident on some of the others.

I looked in Computing Preferences, and it's set to "not more than 50GB, but leave at least 3GB free". The drive is nowhere near full, so I don't understand what the "Notice from Server" is all about. Unfortunately, it's not possible to "copy and paste" stuff from BOINC so I can't repeat the message here.

There is only one Climateprediction job running on the machine, and no other unfinished or aborted jobs on the task tab. The computer is relatively new (March this year) and this is the first task Climateprediction has found for it, so there shouldn't be any debris left there.

The present job has used 51:44:35 so far and thinks it has another 336:29:36 to go, so it is certainly large.

I'll let this one run to conclusion, but tell the server not to download any new ones. Then I'll look to see what space is still being used, and wipe that.

Meanwhile, despite its request for more disk space, it seems still to be running.

If you've changed preferences locally on your BOINC-client, these will override your web-based preferences. Even just looking on the preferences on client and clicking "ok" without changing anything, will mean web-based preferences won't be used any longer. If this is your problem, to start using web-based preferences again, open-up the local client-preferences and hit "clear".

I have received the same massage on two of my machines in a short period of time, so I assumed it was a problem with the work unites and not with the computers!

The massage is:
?Sun 14 Aug 2011 02:14:56 PM PET climateprediction.net Message from server: UK Met Office HADAM3P Southern Africa needs 1810.77MB more disk space. You currently have 96.58 MB available and it needs 1907.35 MB.?

I solved the problem in the short term increasing the disk space under preference disk space and memory usage and afterwards I followed the instruction of Les Bayliss and delete the archives not used anymore (more than 8 GB). Everything works fine again.
