My climate prediction screensaver shows a scale from -42C to +42C. I was just wondering why, because it has been hotter than that here in Oklahoma most summers, and I don't think Oklahoma is the hottest place on earth. Is it just the model I'm running (hadam) or is it just the screensaver?

These aren't real world models, just What if ...
The scales are whatever the researchers think that the models may reach.

The screensaver is just a copy of what is currently happening with the model. It's constantly being re-calculated, thus taking up computation time.
You can save this time by not running the screensaver, and just using the Graphics button to look at it now and then. And from there, you can see other aspects of the model, e.g. rainfall. (Press H to get a list of options. 2 pages.)

Welcome to the project and the boards, Kathryn.

Adding a bit to what Les posted:
You won't see hourly or daily history for particular places. Computation is for grid boxes, not points such as Tulsa or Muskogee. Grid size varies with model type and, as you can imagine, computation required is immense. It all has to do with the difference between weather and climate.

The main climateprediction.net site has explanations of basic climate science and descriptions of the several model types, which you might find of interest. You can find links to climate science and experiments (and much more) here:

Just on the off-chance that this is a units problem, don't forget this is a scientific project - therefore centigrade not Fahrenheit. 42C is 108F.

I don't think it means that 42C is the highest temperature any of the models can handle or generate. The top temp band means 42C and above ie all those very highest temps lumped together.

Thank you Mo. That it's all temps +42 and above explains it.
