A good article in the New York Times about the role of the forests for our climate and the role of the climate for the life of the forests. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/01/science/earth/01forest.html?_r=1 Linux Users Everywhere @ BOINC |

That's an excellent article, broad-ranging and thoroughly researched. A few years ago on the independent CPDN forum we had an Honorory Indian Chief from British Columbia who was finding out all he could about bark beetles. His area was affected and he was documenting the situation with annotated photos. You could see that compared with earlier decades the situation had changed. Now the winters, even in BC, don't seem to be cold enough to knock the beetle population back. So once a tree's infected it's usually doomed. A relative of mine who lives in Colorado has been seeing similar beetle damage for at least three years. Cpdn news |
