A project had been running for about 20 hours when suddenly a new project, which appears to be identical to the first, was created. Now this project is running from the beginning and the previous project is waiting on the new one to continue. Is this normal and expected, or did something go wrong that should be corrected?

Your computer is listed as having 2 processors, so it's normal for BOINC to keep both occupied with work.

If you don't want this to happen with these long models, then just set cpdn to No new tasks (in the Projects tab of the manager). Although this won't take effect now, until you finish one of them.

And the models are NOT identical: one is labelled yftt, and the other is yg27.

As for "waiting on the new one to continue", if you also have work from your other project, ABC@home, in the Tasks tab, then that's why one of the climate models is waiting; you can only have a total of 2 tasks running at once, and the others will have to wait until "switch projects" time, the default for which is one hour.
