I've been running BOINC for years and I just updated to the latest version and added climateprediction, but it doesn't seem to want to send me any work. The status keeps saying communication deferred if I try to update it. I've got 3 Gigs allocated (with 2.7 still available to BOINC) so I don't think its a lack of disk space. |

These days the project doesn't have huge amounts of work constantly available, so starting earlier in this year the project introduced a 1 hour back off timer to prevent a small number of computers from hogging what work is available at any one time. Every time that your computer contacts the server, it starts this timer, which is reset to 1 hour again if the computer is forced to make a new contact too soon. Such as you clicking the Update button. Just leave the computer, and BOINC, to get on with it in it's own good time. Backups: Here |

Hello, I reinstalled BOINC on a new laptop a few days ago (and joined your project). Since then I have not been able to obtain any work for the project. The tasks all say "Downloading" and stays at 0%; under 'Transfers' the status seems to alternate between 'Retry in...' (often a number of hours), or 'Download: pending (project backoff...), also with a timer running into hours. I'm running Windows 7 and the Comodo firewall. I have not received any firewall messages indicating that its blocking anything. BOINC is set to run even when I'm working on the PC. Can you help? Thanks, Pieter Watson |

Hi Pieter Bad news I'm afraid. The SAF model is a re-issue of a data set from last year, which was sent to you in error by a "feature" of the BOINC server code. It's hoped that a fix can be implemented before much longer to stop this from happening. The Coupled Ocean Model is from the recent batch, but has a problem with miss-matched files. It's already failed on 4 other computers, and will also fail on yours. So you'll have to abort both of them. Which will mean whatever files are in your Transfers tab. As for other work, there was a batch of about 14,000 released last week, and it's unlikely that more will be released until those running are completed, returned, and analysed. Backups: Here |

Thank you, Les. I'll keep the project running, should you have more work. Pieter |
