As you say, �no harm done.� And we here in the U.S. are lucky that most U.S. IDP�s use an �all you can eat� model for computer bandwidth so the several hundred MB�s used don�t could against a month limit.

If you're referring to the 19 that haven't started, then my guess is that they're phantoms. There have been times when the servers were having problems, and this been have been one of those times.

Tonight (on the East Coast of the U.S.) the news is both good and bad. On the up side, 1 Hadcm3n WU finished successfully and another on my other machine reached the 75% mark and didn�t crash. Maybe is was just a run of bad luck getting 3 out of 4 in a row fail at 75%.

The bad news is that I am still getting failed downloads of those old hadam3p reissues. It would be nice if they could somehow be weeded out of the queue.

Frank, I had a look at computer 1177150 and at first also thought there were a lot of phantom tasks. But there are pages and pages of them, all at different times. With much earlier versions of BOINC it used to be possible to suspend the tasks you'd downloaded, tricking the server into thinking you needed more work, and then download more and more and more. But that was not possible with this computer's BOINC version. It's most bizarre; I've never seen anything like it.

If you look at the person on BoincStats you'll see what they're interested in and it isn't CPDN, fortunately. On one project you can see he's crunching with a large farm of computers and CPUs. I had a look at a few of his posts on his team forum and spent well over an hour updating my French slang. But I'd have to check his posts at least every fortnight to keep up. A lot of the slang is about gigantic power supplies and graphics cards that cost more than most whole computers. I don't think any of my friends in France want to talk about this.

I've recently updated this PC from Linux 2.6 (http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1252004) to Linux 3.0 Kernel (http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1281746) & I have another PC which is running this exact same set-up (http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1252251) with no problems . .

Is this just a bad batch or is their something wrong with my set-up ?

Look at the original date on the workunit pages - they're all from a year ago, so it's just the BOINC bug again.

This will continue to happen until such time as the servers get upgraded and some code inserted to stop it happening. And no one knows when that'll be. :(

Now that I've looked at the WU's I do indeed see these are over a year old.
It's just a relief to know it not the Device or its configuration.
I can work with the BOINC bug and outdated sever code, its a small price to pay :)

I guess the good thing is there are only 3 tasks per work unit for these hadam3p. Unlike the 5 tasks per work unit for the hadcm3s. But yeah, a sig waste of bandwidth.
