This latest problem had nothing to do with the attachment problem, which still remains, and likely will do so until the entire site becomes BOINC 7 on a new server.

Message 46597 - Posted: 7 Jul 2013, 19:23:12 UTC - in response to Message 46579.

Hello Les,

I trust that this finds you well. Thanks for your suggestion to look in the Applications/BOINC directory.

I have resolved my problem; that is, BOINCManager is now running a climate prediction task.

Here is a summary of what I think is going on.
(1a) The only BOINC stuff I can find on my Macbook Pro are the BOINC Data directory and the executable BOINCManager. (I have deleted the BOINC install and uninstall utilities.)
In particular, when I use the Terminal utility to list the Applications directory, by the command "ls -la", I do not find any "boinc" executable. The listing does contain "BOINCManager.app".
Nor can I find a "boinc" executable elsewhere on the computer.
I mostly used the Spotlight function of the GUI and the "mdfind" Terminal command to do the searches.
(1b) Based on the above, I think that the standard BOINC download did not install the "boinc" executable on my system.
A couple of days ago I went to the message boards of the BOINC project and posted a message asking about whether the standard download installed "boinc". After I got a climate prediction task running on my computer, I posted a follow-up message saying that I did not need an answer. So far there has been no reply.

(2) This is how I reolved the problem.
Since I had been running a climate prediction before on my previous system, I had an old copy of the file "account_climateprediction.net.xml". I quit BOINCManager, copied that file into the "BOINC Data" directory, and restarted BOINCManager. It is now running a climateprediction.net task.

If there is something I am not understanding correctly, I would be interested to hear.

Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,
Bill Glassmire

it Works!!

I just now attached my computer to Climate Prediction.net Created 9 Jul 2013 13:44:08 UTC

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/show_host_detail.php?hostid=1286168

I am running: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x86 Edition, Service Pack 3, (05.01.2600.00)

I am running: BOINC Version 7.0.64 (x86) - running as a single instillation - (not as a service)

Please ... could someone try to attach your computer Climate Prediction.net ... to to see if it works for you ?

When I attached on 25 Jun, using devious methods as posted earlier, I only got 1 solitary work unit.

I have been having trouble reconnecting to ClimatePrediction. I have used it since the BBC bit stopped.

Are you saying I will not be able to connect my 2 PCs running Windows 7 until this problem is sorted?

I have built 5 PCs but know very little about programming

Read the thread - there are various ways and means posted if the regular method fails.

yes I got one re sent task. it may take a while to get work.
and the BOINC client can ask for work only once an hour for tasks.
also do not push the update button because that will just reset BOINC back one hour
to ask for work (tasks). Also double check to make sure that you have selected: allow new tasks.

<Edit>

Oops my mistake I just looked at the Server Status Page:

RAPIT project (hadcm3n) - Tasks ready to send 917

I had posted the following by mistake:
I think the project is only issuing re sends at the moment.

I think the Project team have already sorted out this problem - (attaching computers to Climate Prediction.net)
I was able attach in the normal way just 12 hours ago.
and I know of 4 other people who all have attached in the normal way in the last 12 hours.
Have you tried to attaching your computer to Climate Prediction.net
with in the last 12 hour
using -> tools -> add project -> BOINC manager -> add project -> next -> choose project -> ..... ?

There's been an email from Jonathan Miller to say that he's put re-directs in place for everything that he can find that the Attach command requests.

This appears to be working.

***************

On the matter of no work: If users haven't been here for a while, then their ticked climate prefs may not include the option to accept the (relatively) long hadcm3n type of model. Also know as the RAPID project.

More of these are currently being loaded, as well as some regional model types.

Sorry I started using SETI and my PCs are syncronized so using tools options I cannot get to ClimatePrediction or select another choice. I uninstalled Boinc but has restarted SETI when Boinc downloaded

Eurika, I got rid of SETI by coming out of Bam and then I have connected both PCs
back to ClimatePrediction successfully

Thank You

Today I've tested it again. Adding CP using boinc-client (linux) and boincmgr.
And it worked!
Unfortunately I got the message: "Server can't find key file".

What's wrong?

The original server had to be replaced in a big rush because it was falling to pieces (multiple failures on the RAID array, probably due to the controller), the new server is up but not quite yet working correctly. The 'server can't find key file' basically says that the server configuration is still wrong.
I'm a volunteer and my views are my own.
