Have been on the site for two weeks but no WU's received. Is there a problem if there is how do I fix same? Thanks and have an uncomplicated day. |

Hi RDM and welcome to CPDN. At the moment on CPDN the batches of tasks are irregular and often not very large so some members can go for periods without CPDN work. But you can do a few things to maximise your chances of getting some of what there is. * The Server status page will tell you what's available, though there are always a few resends that get resent so quickly that you'd hardly notice them on that page. There's a link to it in the blue menu to the left. * Have a look at the climateprediction.net preferences in your account. There's also a link to your account in the blue menu. You need to make sure that all the current model types are marked Yes, ie Hadcm3n full resolution, EU Europe, SAF Southern Africa, PNW Pacific North-West, ANZ Australia & NZ. If any of these are marked No you'll need to edit those preferences. * If your computer is idle and you want to keep it busy with useful research tasks, join another project in addition using the BOINC Manager Tools menu. * In BOINC Manager Projects tab don't keep pressing the Update button for CPDN. Each computer's only allowed to request work from the server once per hour; pressing that button resets the timer to 60 minutes. Cpdn news |

It might be best if you don't try running the hadcm3 models. Your processor is a Celeron M, which isn't fast, plus you have less than 1 Gig of ram. Most laptops have onboard display chips, and use main memory for display purposes, so you're likely to run into problems with the big model when it wants a lot of memory, and your display is also wanting a lot. Could cause a model crash. Backups: Here |

Hi folks, I've decided to revive this thread on issue related to NO WUs received after new install. If this is not proper I would ask the moderators to advice. So, I've just installed BOINC (ubuntu repo - 7.6.31 (x64)) and CPDN on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I followed the advice to download 32 libs (sudo apt-get install lib32ncurses5 lib32z1 gcc-4.7-multilib). I set the machine to use one core only so I can check whether WU's will work without crashing all of them. Default settings to fetch work - as other machines - almost all models allowed. The machine is this one It seem I can't download any WU - No tasks sent, no available, though the hopper is pretty full. It happens once after project initialization and 1h later - after communication deferred. Here is what the log says: 6.08.2017 18:16:18 EEST | climateprediction.net | [work_fetch] set_request() for CPU: ninst 1 nused_total 0.00 nidle_now 1.00 fetch share 1.00 req_inst 1.00 req_secs 51840.00 6.08.2017 18:16:18 EEST | climateprediction.net | [work_fetch] request: CPU (51840.00 sec, 1.00 inst) 6.08.2017 18:16:18 EEST | climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 6.08.2017 18:16:18 EEST | climateprediction.net | Requesting new tasks for CPU 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks sent 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Europe 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Pacific North West 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Australia New Zealand 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Africa 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office Coupled Model Full Resolution Ocean 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for UK Met Office HadCM3 short 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for Weather At Home 2 (wah2) 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | No tasks are available for Weather At Home 2 (wah2) (region independent) 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | climateprediction.net | [work_fetch] backing off CPU 488 sec 6.08.2017 18:16:20 EEST | | [work_fetch] Request work fetch: RPC complete 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] ------- start work fetch state ------- 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] target work buffer: 8640.00 + 43200.00 sec 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] --- project states --- 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | climateprediction.net | [work_fetch] REC 0.000 prio 0.000 can't request work: scheduler RPC backoff (3630.93 sec) 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] --- state for CPU --- 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] shortfall 51840.00 nidle 1.00 saturated 0.00 busy 0.00 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | climateprediction.net | [work_fetch] share 0.000 project is backed off (resource backoff: 483.31, inc 600.00) 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] ------- end work fetch state ------- 6.08.2017 18:16:25 EEST | | [work_fetch] No project chosen for work fetch Any advice? |

It looks like you have a task now. Just for curiosity, what did you do (if anything) to download a task? |

I think it was related to the queue. On install: Store at least and Store up to were set at 0.1 days and 0.5 days (not sure for the latter). I had a WU from WUprop running before adding CPDN, which might have affected the queue. After changing the above settings to 1 day for both it seems, only then I got a task. I read this which made me play with the queue. |

I usually set mine to about 5days for each of the two settings. Most WU seem to be 3 to 6 days. |

I usually set my work buffer at 10 days each. The nature of this project these days is feast or famine. When work is available you need to be in a position to take a big bite or you are going to spend a lot of time running backup projects during the frequent work droughts. |
