Make sure you have "leave applications in memory when suspended" OFF. For the majority of crunchers it's always better to have "leave applications in memory" ON, and for some BOINC-projects it's a good chance you'll have problems if it's not turned on. For CPDN, especially if you're starting many models at once, there'll be large disk-trashing and chances are this increases the probability of something using "too long" and errors-out the model. As long as models is kept in memory, you'll not have this problem except after rebooting computer. So, if you're not really short on memory, or runs some really memory-hungry applications, it's better to keep applications in memory. |

Make sure you have "leave applications in memory when suspended" OFF. The reason I wrote that was I have a "gut feeling" (no data to back this up) is that when a CPDN project is suspended with everything in memory and the computer is shutdown (either correctly or power failure) the chances of restarting successfully are lowered. It "seems" when I left the models in memory it rarely restarted successfully. When I don't leave the model in memory, it restarts most of the time. It is rare to go a month here with out a power failure. |

Most motherboards have a setting in the BIOS to flush or not flush the system RAM on reboot, Windows is much better now with memory leaks and releasing memory when terminating applications sense 2K or XP. I remember Windows 98, 98SE and Windows ME were all a nightmare when it came to memory leaks, you would literally have to reboot to get it to release system RAM at times. |
